The only freewheel with an 11t cog was a very rare Suntour that screwed into a 13t AFAIR, so an 11-up straight block freewheel couldn't happen anyway. 13t straight blocks are fairly easy, 12t not impossible. These things haven't been made for a while though...

I am not at home and so can't check, but I am fairly sure that I can Make a 12 t block using the Regina CX6 kit.

I have 3 of those kits in the garage. I seem to remember that I can do an 11 with it though.

Regarding actual FREEWHEELS (not cassettes)... were there any 6-speeds with 12 tooth cogs?

I believe even the early Shimano 7400 series (Dura-Ace MF-7400) 6-speed freewheel was only available down to 13 teeth (and that was around 1986)... and the 7-speed MF-7400 could add a 12 tooth cog.

Were there other 6-speeds freewheels which ever used 12t cogs? ... Regina? ... Maillard?


By the way, here is a gold 5-speed corn cob freewheel dated August 1980 with 13-17 cogs :)

12t yes, 11t no. Regina stopped making freewheels ages ago (a decade or so?), so the most used cogs are getting rarer anyway.

The only other 11t freewheels are from Shimano and are the opposite of straight blocks.

Nashbar has 13-24 7-cog blocks. I think that's as close as you're going to get, unless you happen across something on ebay.

Do you know what model freewheels those would be?
I've only seen Shimano freehub Cassettes with 11t cogs - but that could be very handy with some compact road cranksets.

The kicker with the 11T (I think used by Steve Bauer) was that you couldn't use a 12T. Seemed illogical but a 12T simply wouldn't thread onto existing freewheel bodies. All of us racer types either chose to stick with the 12 (most of us did) and a couple used the 11-13 but to no great effect. I guess Suntour thought that maybe a tourist would use it (or a tandem or some other bike that descends really fast but climbs really slow and therefore would need a wide range of gears). I know for a long time I saved an 11-13 unit in my tool box "just in case". This 11-13 unit threaded onto a standard freewheel body, at least at that time it was standard.

Reginas, Sachs, etc were all limited to a 12T minimum. I know because I had the various cog boards and extra cogs and all that. I still have about 15 pounds of freewheel stuff sitting in the basement. I suppose I should sort through and list/sell it.

Well aware that Regina no longer makes freewheels, the CX6 kits I have are new and unused. I also have a lifelong supply of CX freewheel bodies.

I think I am good with freewheels for the rest of my lifetime.

7sp 11-28 (rare) and 7sp 11-34 (common). I don't know the model numbers off the top of my head but it should be fairly easy for you to find them.
