Any idea of the Univega Maxima Sport, Nuovo Sport, Viva Sport what was the order of quality? Thanks in advance

I just bought an Alpina Uno off craigslist and the bb spindle is a little loose. It has a different bb than any bike I've owned and I have no clue what tool to use on it.

I think you are missing the lock ring. The rest looks normal. That is why it is getting loose. I recomment you measure the spindle lenght, figure out if it is symmetric or not and get a seal BB that fits that shell and lenght. The shell would be 68mm.

Yeah I took the lockring off and realized I didnt have a tool to take the rest apart. My other bikes have a flat part for a wrench or something to grab onto that thing is flat and has those 6 holes so Im guessing something goes in them?

The generic name is a pin spanner and most good, bicycle shops will carry them. They're quite inexpensive. However, in a pinch, you can make one by bending a metal clothes hanger into a U, then forming a right angle bend into the tips, with a vise or pliers. Trim the bent tips back to about 1/8". You can also use an old spoke but the steel is thinner and not as good a fit for the holes in the adjustable cup. The homemade version is a bit flimsy for stubborn cups, but if you need one in a hurry...

Edit: Sometimes, depending on the length and style of the spindle, you can get the tips of needle nose pliers over the spindle and into a set of diametrically opposed holes and use it like a pin screwdriver.

You could get the tool posted above or use T-mar's approach, but I've had luck putting a small screwdriver (or something tht will fit) into one of the holes and then hitting the screw driver with a hammer. Won't work if it is seized and I wouldn't do it on something high end or that you care about damaging but I've had luck with it...

hello,
I have an 80's model univega gran turismo that i want to put new hoods on - anyone know the right size? I know very little about bikes but really love this one and am about to take it on a 2 month tour. i love learning about it and doing stuff myself. any advice would be appreciated.
oh also my girlfriend has an 80's model univega nouvo touring and needs new hoods too.

am i posting this in the right place? I'm totally new to this.

so i found some places online that sells hoods but can't find the model # of my levers - is there an easy way to tell which model # they are?

Good odds that the Cane Creek hoods will fit but no guarantee without pics.
Dia Compe made a standard lever by the gazillions in the '70s through early-mid '80's so good odds that's what your bike has and the Cane Creek hoods will fit, but need to see pics for confirmation.

I can't see anything in the photos that tells me those aren't the standard form factor Dia Compe levers, which the Cane Creek hoods will fit perfectly. You should be able to get a pair for arounda little over $10 shipped, either from Niagara Cycle Works, or Ebay. Colors include black and tan (substitute for the natural gum color shown in your photos).

This came from a Garage sale on Friday. Al it needed was some air, a tune, and a thorough cleaning. I am going out today to get some tape for the bars(either grey or tan/beige). It is in pretty much mint condition, with a couple of tiny scratches. I don't think this bike has more than a couple hundred miles on it.

I think it is an 1983 Nuovo Sport, as the serial # starts with an L



And the seller was asking more money for her beat up Trek 820 than for this....



I bought it to flip, but it might be hard to let this go, as my daughter will be growing into it soonish.
