Thanks, that was the goal. But i decided to give it back to my father (who has since gone riding with me again
and he needed a softer saddle for now. Still have the new white one and white race tires waiting for him when hegetsused to riding again.

Well, it has only been a week and I found the last part of my wish list for my Uni upgrade - the SunTour Barcons and downtube clamp-on cable stop... Now to get the shift cables/housings.
Who carries the stainless cable housing style that was OEM for the SunTour barcons? Just the bare spiral-wound stainless cable housings, not the clear vinyl-covered braided housings that VeloOrange sells.
I'll use the VO braided housings or blue vinyl housings to match the existing blue brake cable housings if I have to, but I'd prefer the original style uncovered housings.
I also < might > use the VeloOrange DT shifter boss cable stops for a cleaner/uncluttered look... Whaddyathink?

Hey all,
Just brought a Univega Sportour home. Nice metallic grey 1983 I believe, the S# begins with an L. All original 'cept the tires were replaced with a brand new set of Conti ultrasports by the PO. Very dusty and no rust. My size !
Pics or it did'nt happen will have to wait til I am with my computer. It's getting cleaned
I get to join the club, yea ! Wait, I still have the Alpina Pro.....

finally got my Nuovo Sport conversion up and running! Dad bought mom this bike new in '81 (Norwood Bike Depot), I stripped/stored the original components. Original saddle/seatpost, handlebars, headset/bb (!), crankset (modified), and chainring. Switched out the wheels, pedals, stem.
If anyone has a matching fork lying around please PM me! The one pictured is slightly bent (pulls to slightly to the right, frustrating) and I can't really justify putting more $$ into straightening it.

as my first official post in this forum, i would like to show my "1988 vintage Rover Sport". what a great bike. it has a few biathlon races under it's belt and has hauled the kid around for a few hundred miles. only problem i'm having is the lower bracket is starting to grind. (anyone info on a replacement would be great).

My 1984 Univega Competizione
Suntour Superbe Pro - Shifter, Derailleurs, Hubs
Dia Compe Aero Gran Compe brakes and levers
Araya 1W wheels
I found it on Craigslist and this is my second Competizione. My first one was stolen from my garage and I was lucky to find this one.
It was pretty beat up when I got it, however the frame was in pretty good shape aside from some surface rust and scratches. So far I've replaced the seat, seat post, stem, brake hoods, brake cables, bar tape, tubes, tires and pedals.
Here is pic of my first Competizione. I do love these bikes.
dude. both are beautiful bikes!

Based on component dates, plus the first digit of the SN, I place this low-tier Super Ten at 1978. Better-quality and prettier "after" pics will follow when saddle and tape are replaced (dang that's ugly!) but in the meantime I'm trying to figure out who manufactured the bike. Got no responses in the C&V forum so I'm bringing it to the Univega specialists. The serial number doesn't correlate with anything Miyata and it's got these odd bracket things around the second digit. Close inspection reveals they are not incomplete stamps. So. Any ideas? Anything is appreciated!

RD is Suntour Accushift XCT. FD is Suntour 7. Shifters are Suntour Powershift. Dia Compe center pull brakes. Silstar(?) cranks. I don't know how much is original equipment.
p.s. "Super Ten" isn't included in the list of Univega models.

I always thought Univegas were poor quality... (when I was a child in the 80s)
Was this not the case? We always thought they were sort of the 'flea market bikes'
It seems like this was not the case.

Univegas were lower price but equal in quality to the higher priced bikes. I have a 1994 Alpina 5.5 and its a very high quality bike, nice welds, good components, lightweight frame, everything you would find in something more expensive at a lower pricepoint.

I need to learn more about other brands
Thanks. I like the 'just as awesome, but cheaper' model.

I haven't posted this "Viva Touring" in a long time. It's really sort of a hybrid "Uni-yata", with most parts taken from a scrapped Miyata 710 and hung on the Univega frame. I added the Fizek saddle and a rattle-canned Pletscher rack. I've added hoods since the snap was taken.
Normally I wouldn't ride a bike this small, but somehow it feels larger and I rather like the ride.

Auchencrow,
That does not look like a set up for a bike too big for someone. Looks like a great bike !
I would love to find a canti Univega road bike as well.

I acquired two Univegas this year, each of them remarkable for very different reasons. The first one was a battered and abused mid 1970's (I think) Viva (I think) that had been fixified and, er... customized? If you dare, here's some pix of it on an old thread for "The ugliest bike you own." It's too small for me by quite a bit, but I've ridden it 8 or ten times, mostly for "one last laugh before it goes on CL" which it certainly will when I finally build a up a fixie more my size.
The other one was a dead-mint 1986 Nuovo Sport I got from the brother-in-law of the guy who dropped dead about a week after buying the bike new. For the next 675 weeks of its life, it apparently sat untouched in the back of the garage. It still had bike shop protective plastic over one side of the handlebars when I got it. Lots more pix of it on its own thread.
