You have made me green (with envy). It's not easy being green. :)

Congratulations on a fine-looking shop!

What are you using to hang those frames to get them to sit the the way they do?

Is there a bracket or hanger you were able to find somewhere?

Thanks again for the nice comments.

Here's a better shot of the brackets holding the 3 frames. It's from a company called Rudy Racks who sell to shops primarily but if you go to their website and just fill out an order they'll call you direct and take your order. I think they cot around $30. I looked for frame racks forever before finding them last year. You can use them a couple different ways and they allow you to swing the frame in any direction you need.

And here's a few shots of the ultra pantographed Somec. Everything that could be possibly be pantoed is pantoed including frame and fork:

As for an alarm...let's just say it has a very unique "security system"...

By the way, anyone coming to Portland for NAHBS in February is welcome to stop by the house for some "bike chat" and brew. Bring a box of trade stuff!

How's Friday afternoon or evening sound? :D

congratulations, It will be many years before I have my shop or a collection of that caliber. My new place has about zero shop space and too am situated on the pacific northwest. I will only be doing the most minor work to the bike I already have until I find a new place hopefully by late spring/early summer.

Sixty Fiver 12-30-07 01:46 PM

I also hate you... and I already have a pretty great shop.

Sixty Fiver 12-30-07 01:47 PM

I think that Cuda and I both might be stopping by...

solveg 12-30-07 01:48 PM

I did a google search for Rudy Racks, and came up with nothing. Do you have the website for them?

Here's a better photo of the rack. The one on the website is not the best and even though I ordered them from the site I still was not sure what I was egtting until they arrived. Hope these give you a better idea:

One other thing.

You better be careful about the picture of the Masi in the stand.

A couple of years ago I did a complete restoration on an early '70's Geoffrey Butler, Reynolds 531 tubing.

When I posted pictures of the process on RBR I was welcomed with a stern lecture from some young 'un who has seemingly never heard of bikes built of steel on the dangers of clamping the bike by the seatpost, the tubing is too thin, I have probably ruined it, etc .................................

At least it made for good chuckles.

I've got a good story about this...Years and years ago at the shop I worked at, a customer brought a bike in for some sort of repair. It was a nice Columbus or Reynolds frame, and when it was clamped in the stand (not sure why they didn't do the seatpost, but whatever), the seat tube just crumbled. Turns out, there was a rag left in there for who knows why, and it had been gathering moisture for years, rusting the frame from the inside out. That was a difficult phone call to make for the mechanic.

jgedwa 12-30-07 02:46 PM

I am just speechless about the shop and the bikes. Absolutely beautiful. I would be happy to have the area under your deck that you use as storage as my entire space. Would you adopt me? I hardly eat anything.

Verry sweet.

The key word is sweet.

how can you tell B from A in the 1950s? Also the #2 stem with those bars gives the impression of a very stretched out riding position. Classic.

Note to self: when going to portland, pack the extra memory cards and batteries for the camera. And anything worth trading.

Just my guess but here's why:

Non-sloping forks says Model B or C (Riveria), I said B because I hope for the best.:)
The braze on pump pegs were more common to the 50s and early 60s.
Single chain ring says 50s and B, an A was much more likely to have an FD. The chainring itself has a 30s, 40s, 50s style. It looks FB to me.
Wood rims say 50s and B because the A would likely have aluminum.
The Campy RD says more A than B but that was an easy upgrade.
The lack of chrome says C but I am assuming that is non-original paint. If it is original, it is spectacular.
The relaxed geometry says 50s, early 60s.

But as I wrote before, the centerpulls, braze-on top-tube brake stops and chainstay cable stop says later 60s but those things were possible in the 50s, just not as likely.

Come on KRhea, how about a little insight? ;):D

16 x 19, nice size ... I went home and measured my shop, 11.5 x 14.5 feet. But mine is an unfinished windowless basement room that looks more like the forgotten supply room in a prison escape movie where the prisoners are digging out of, into a secret passageway.

This thread got me thinking we could do a "show us your shop" thread, except that we already have a winner. Ditto on "show us you bike collection."

Sorry guys for the delay, things have been a bit crazy around our place. Anyway, I have little to no info on the bike and have been looking for "help" in details on it for quite some time.
I'll post more detailed pics of it in the next day or so including closeups of BBshell, lugs, components etc along with the cool story of how it came to be mine.
One thing I can answer, it is a category 1 repaint done by Cycleart way before I got the bike. The paint and decals are perfect. I'm usually not a big big fan of white bikes but this one has a depth and clarity that is amazing.

Cool. I am looking forward to seeing more! Also, when you get a chance, measure the width of the BB. It should be either 70 or 74 mm. Also, does it have an oil hole on the BB? If not, it leans to B instead of A. Also, it would have been easy for CycleArt to add the braze-ons before the new paint.
