membership?

wrong place to ask, maybe...but how does one "join" a forum and become a "member?" I don't see any options for this.

JunkYardBike 12-31-07 08:08 AM

Click on "User Control Panel" in the upper right hand corner.

Click on "Paid Subscriptions" in the lower left hand corner, listed under "Miscellaneous".

Since it says "senior member" under your name, it appears you have figured it out.

If you can make posts, you are a member. If you want to get a red star, get rid of the ads, and be able to post in the For Sale forum, go here.

Ha! It says "member" and he can post but to truly be accepted as one of our own you must preform a public feat of strength. This can mean anything from showing us a picture of your Huffy in C&V, starting a "Why helmets suck" thread in A&S, commenting on one of the many drug & alcohol threads in P&R, or becoming a notable denizen of Foo.

The choice is yours to pick your poison. :)

Welcome to BF!

datlas 12-31-07 08:53 AM

Thanks for the info....I am a member of BF but it wasn't clear how to get the red star and be a "member" of the sub-forums (e.g. C&V).

Alternatively, you can start a "Top 10 reasons why I love My SUV" thread in the Car-Free forum.

Go ahead - I double-dog dare ya.

lotek 12-31-07 09:54 AM

nah, just ask about Chrome bags in SS/FG forum. that'll do it.

....OR have your picture taken seated upon an vintage bicycle....whilst eating a live chicken......:D

CardiacKid 12-31-07 10:52 AM

I think asking the best way to cut off the derailleur hanger on a '72 Paramount, would do the trick.

datlas 12-31-07 10:53 AM

Wait a second, you have to pay $$ to get the red star? That is not for cheapskates like me!

It's only $25 for a lifetime! So, if you are like most of us, even as elderly and crotchety as we are, we figure that amortization will reduce the cost to less than a dollar per year.

It's not necessary to have a red star to be a 'member' of the C & V forum--we welcome any and all who enjoy vintage bicycles. There are two main advantages to being a paying member: you get rid of the ads, and you can advertise items in the For Sale forum.

The advantage for Bike Forums, is that it helps pay for servers and all that. But, if you click on ads every once in a while, you support Bike Forums that way as well.

Some of our members actually have paid for memberships, or have had memberships donated to them, but prefer to be able to see the ads. In order for us currently to see ads, it's necessary for us to log out. Admin Brian has mentioned that it's a possibility that those of us with red stars may be able, in the future, to control the ability to view the ads without having to log off.

So, the choice is yours! No one will laugh at you, mock you, or otherwise denigrate you for not having a paid membership.

We're just happy to have you here  !

Well, think of how your retinas feel with all the blinking ads. It's well worth the $ considering what you learn around here.

It's a real shock to see some of the ads now! I log out every once in a while because I'm looking for stuff, but man, it is almost enough to trigger one of my migraines.

So, for me, it's preventive medicine, too :) .

Oops. I've been having problems with reading comprehension lately. :o You are a member by virtue of registering. Yes, the red star eliminates ads and permits you to post in the 'For Sale / Wanted' forum, as has been explained above.

Indeed!

wait, we're not Crotchety we're Cranky (as in Cranky&Vintage).
at least I don't think I'm crotchety.

Cranky is a good substitute. Interestingly enough, it's the SS/FG forum and scene that made me crotchety.

OH NO! I've not done ANY of these things. Why am I always the last to know. Why doesn't anyone tell me.

Fortunately, I just bought a Huffy. I'll post Pics posted tomorrow!

East Hill 12-31-07 03:27 PM

I notice how all of you neatly skirted the 'elderly' :) .

There's only one crotchety member here, and he prefers to be known as a 'curmudgeon' :D .
