where to get 126mm rear hubs?
Looked around online and can't find too much, would like 36 hole with thread on freewheel. Saw the quando ones at harris, and there's a few on loose screws. Nothing I liked, I also checked ebay and nothing for a reasonable price. Where so you folks get your hubs. Also I don't want to respace the rear.
Thanks,
Thanks,

While there is nothing special about these hubs, I imagine they will polish up nicely and will get the job done and the price is reasonable at this moment.

Here's a nice Italian set that could be exceptional.

Best of luck.

Harris Cycle used to sell them. Not sure if they still are doing it.

I have been been in the same situation looking for 126mm hubs.
Try the The "New Old Stock NOS Bike Shop" on ebay. They have a a few different styles. They are not inexpensive but they have a selection.

If there is an old bike shop in your area you may be able to find them there as well.
I went into one recently and found all kinds of stuff "in the back room".

Do you require NOS, or will used hubs in good condition do? Do you want high flange or low?

A dude going by "Purevl" was asking about corncob freewheels a few days ago. I just gave him a shimano 600 13-18 tooth along with the matching 36h shimano 600 hub (126mm). He may not even want the hub. Give him a pm and see.

There's a seller on eBay name of JonesBikes. He seems to deal in these particularly.
Rims+Hubs
I bought a couple pair of the Deore XT hubs, and they're brand new and very nice quality (once you throw away the MTB QRs); nicer I think than the Dura-Ace I've seen. Only drawback is that they come with a Uniglide freehub installed. Unless you can deal with that, cassette-wise, you'd have to find a Hyperglide replacement.
But he has a lot of other brands, too.

So, just out of curiosity, what does a used, early '80s 36h Campy Record rear hub go for?

I bought a wheel including one recently on eBay, with Mavic MA40 rim, for $50 shipped. Most are sold with a front hub, and you can see completed listings and what they sold for (or didn't sell for) by doing a search that way.

if you're willing to go uniglide and cassette loose screws has an exage in 36 hole, and a few cassettes that'll fit. But also spendy.

phil wood FSA hubs come in many spacings including 126 and 130 and in various drillings (36, 32, 40 hole). I bought a set off lick bike and I can't wait for them to arrive

I was hoping for some low flange hubs of good quality and was hoping NOS but a VG cond. used set could do I suppose, I guess the best would be a set of 80s campy hubs, I don't want to cannabilize the sew-up wheelset from my Merckx but want to go riding on clinchers, too many cactus spines around here so I ride with thick tires and tubes. I've tried the route of looking for an older road bike with 126mm rear hubs but no luck so far, only crummy stuff. I do have a Helicomatic 700c wheelset that could use new rims but I see no reason to build them up and then run into the problem of replacing the freewheel when it wears out, and I could use it as a spare for my Ventoux I just traded for.
With so much nice vintage stuff I don't see why nobody is making anything anymore, especially stems... I have a cinelli stem that is cracked at the binder bolt and just looked into replacing it and it looks like ebay or classifieds is the only option.

Still looking? I found one option that wasn`t mentioned here yet:

Maybe they have something that does it for you.

Go to a nearby swap meet as this is the prime season.
The Westminster MD meet is next Sunday. Last year I bought a few sets of Campy lo-flanged Record hubs in 36 h for $25 each. They were in fine shape but used. Am going again next week.

I've got a 6sp set of tubulars in the garage. I'll go check and see what they are, if you like.

I have used set of Mailard 500 hubs laced to black matrix rims. They were I believe the factory wheelset on my '89 Trek. The are 100 front and 126 rear with a thread on 7 speed freewheel. The gear set is removed. The front wheel is in good condition. The rear is missing two spokes and the wheel would need to be trued up. I have no reason to think that it would not true straight and work fine. I would entertain an offer for them?

Those ebay Mavic hubs are GORGEOUS! I'd buy them if a generous BF member hadn't hooked me up when I was faced with this very same dilemma.
I just got around to lacing them yesterday, ironically enough, even though I acquired the hubs three months ago.

Is it just the machining tolerances? The grade of material used in the shell? Strengh? Or is it all about how sexy it is?
I've serviced a couple of hubs and some non-cartridge bottom brackets and it seems that any one with fresh grease and bearings spins great after it's adjusted right.
