Help with Schwinn Letour
Numbers on head badge read 3367.
True Temper "Made in the USA" on the seat tube. Is this an 87 or 88 model? Is this a made in Mississippi model? Thanks! http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...6/IMG_0428.jpg |
That late in the year, my guess is that it's an '88 year model (both '87 and '88 were available in the "scarlet" color). Made in Greenville, Mississippi-

Last week, I met a woman at a coffee shop who had just been given that same bike by a friend. It looked almost new, at age 20. It was exactly her size and she was as excited as a little kid at Christmas to have such a nice bike.
This Schwinn may be one of the MOST "all-American" of road bikes, as the steel tubing for the frame and fork was made in the USA by True Temper, the frame and fork were made in the USA, and the final assembly took place in Mississippi. Richard Schwinn said the VERY last bike to by made by Schwinn in the USA was taken home by the plant manager. Then his son "borrowed" the bike when leaving to attend the University of Mississippi, where it was stolen. So, probably today some "crackhead" is riding around Oxford, Mississippi on the very last "Made in USA" Schwinn. |
