Seatpost for a strange french bike
So I'm not entirely sure if what I've got counts as C&V but I'll go ahead and post anyways.
I picked up a bonded aluminium Vitus with full DA a while back off of CL. It fits beautifully except for the fact that I'd like a seatpost with zero setback. Here's where it gets a bit more difficult. The seatpost diameter is 25mm. I'd like to find something that's not going to look out of place on the bike and is high quality to match the rest of it. Do any of you guys know where I could pick up a 25mm DA seatpost with no setback? If not, I would be fine something fluted and attractive as well. |
There is somebody with a 25.0 Dura ace post for trade in FGSS. Ill find it for you.

Well actually I don't think you're going to find a zero setback DA post nor a zero setback with flutes. I would look in to a silver Thompson

Do they make Thompsons that small?
|
of course they do!

Thomson-Str-Black-Bicycle-Seatpost-25-0-x-330-mm Although finding one in silver would require a bit of digging. |
I dont understand which you are looking for Vintage Fluted or current Zero Setback. They are mutually exclusive.
I noticed this Campagnolo post on eBay. It looks like a 1980s C-Record era post, not bad looking and probably good for the period of the bike. http://i9.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/d5/e5/18a3_12.JPG For a Zero Setback post you'll need a VERY modern (current) seatpost... and Thompson's "Elite" posts are the only ones I know of EVER made in that diameter... so, that style is maybe not appropriate if you're trying to keep faithful to the period? :o http://bikeusa.com/images/library/ca...50m/ST7342.jpg |
I think he just wants a better fit. I mean he can always keep the current post if he wants to keep the option of having it period correct.
looks like you are stuck with black...http://www.lhthomson.com/elite_sizes.asp but hey its a thompson and they look kick ass no matter what! |
Um and where are the pictures of the bike, I think that should be a required thing with every "I got a new bike now I have a question" post
|
The Fluted style Dura-Ace SP-7400 was also made in 25.0... but good luck finding one of those. :(

I wish I could find one of the Basso Ascots that take a 25.0 post. I would be all over that campy post.

That may or may not be why the OP wants it.

why not just move the seat forward???

I should mention that you can get American Classic seatposts in 25.0mm as well. I have one on my Vitus (which is currently for sale, btw)
