Painting a Pinarello Cross Bike

I came across a Pinarello Cross bike frame in good shape. I'm wanting to rebuild it. If I repaint it and don't do it in original colors does it lose value? Where is a good place to send a bike to be repainted?

To someone else maybe! If you are going to keep it, I would say it adds "value"! :D

I don't think my Colnago Super is worth any less in lavender, than it would be in it's original basic middle metallic blue. Could be wrong, but I don't care!
It's not for sale anyway, because to me, it's ...... priceless! :p

Don't know! . . . . ;)

Here's a pic of the forks from a Pinarello I did a few years ago.
It's a black base with HOK marbleizer, dragon scales and covered in a candy yellow/green/blue fade.
Yellow from the front, green from the sides & blue from the back.

That's cool. How did you do that? Do you own a paint shop?

They're definitely not cheap, but CyclArt (http://www.cyclart.com/) in California does good work. They repainted one of my Pinarellos and touched up another along with a Guerciotti (http://velospace.org/node/7282). If the decals on your Pinarello are peeling like they were on mine, consider clear-coating upon replacement.

I use a single plastic stencil that is shaped like your fingertip. I then use black in an airbrush to spray each scale. Or rather, the shadow around the scale, spraying at just the tip of the stencil.
On the Pinarello I did the scales over House of Kolor Marbleizer, which was over a black base.
The candy fade added the colors.
You can't see it in the picture, but I did all the cut-outs in 24k gold leaf.

Here is a small sampling...

And yes, I do know a gallery owner on Ocean Ave in downtown Carmel. I've thought about doing a "show", just haven't done more than that with the idea yet. Although, that would mean I could add another zero, just to the LEFT of the decimal point, on my prices!

As a note, if you are going to NAHBS, I'll have my full porfolio with me. ;)

Ooh, that should be fun to flip through.
