Period-correct bar wrap?
It's time for new tape, and I was wondering what might be appropriate for some early-mid 90's Italian steel. It's a work bike that sees a fair amount of abuse, and I was thinking of possibly Paris-Roubaix-inspired double-layer black Cinelli cork ribbon. I haven't been too impressed with the Cinelli tape's durability, however.
Any suggestions? |
The ugliest splash Cinelli tape you can find.

I like the padded foam solid color stuff over the Cinelli cork.

Grab-Ons. Takes tons of abuse.
Can't bear the black foam appearance? Wrap some vinyl tape over it in the color of choice. |
Grab Ons are not very 90s
Splash tape on the other hand, most definitely. I've got a Miami Vice colored roll of splash tape I've been waiting for just the right bike to put it on |
Benotto tape, or Velo Orange Elk hide

^^^I was trying to address his abuse issue. If he thinks he needs a double helping of cork tape, a more cushioned alternative might be in order. The thinner version for road bars is still for sale. It should be more durable too. Hmmm, didn't know Vancouver used cobblestones.
:D |
I wasn't thinking about urban riding. Those days are mostly in my past.
In that case, why not get bargain bin cork tape and put some of the Benotto style plastic over it? |

Yes. Basically whichever bar tapes are in a bike shop's dusty back room, or what's selling on eBay for $2 per roll.
:roflmao: That would virtually guarantee period correct tape :p . East Hill |
Cotton/black!

Splash tape is definitely correct, but in the early '90s I had some black and white tape that had kind of a zebra striped pattern. If you could find some of that... :D
