Hi T-Mar,new guy here.I wasn't sure if this model should be included but it is in xlnt shape and has probably less than 20 miles on it.

This was meant to be my winter/rain bike but I am holding out.The PO just kept in the garage its whole life and it looks really amazing.I have ridden some good and not so good MTB or hybrid types and this one is smooth and a blast.But,what doi know, i jst love bikes.Thanks for the thread,some amazing rides here.

My son picked up this International on CL. I love the splatter paint. He's to forward the serial number. Anybody know wehn it was produced & what components it was equipped with?

I just found a Maroon with gold trim lugs Nishiki Competition on CL. Stays wrap around the seattube/toptube. No braze bottle/cable. No rear DR hanger on dropout. Chrosm dropouts. painted stays center pull diacompe brakes and SR stem. bolt on/through brakes.
KS37...so it is early 70's???
but under the serial number is stamped an odd looking W. does that mean anything?

It should be circa 1974, possibly an early 1975 model. Pics will confirm. The W is actually WCC (there are two opposite facing C's, flanking the W. It stands for West Coast Cycle (Supply), the US company that owned the Nishiki brand name.

I was wondering if you could help me figure out some more information about my Nishiki. It has "Nishiki" stamped into the top of the seat stays, "N" stamped on each side of the top of the fork, the shifter mounting location is on the top of the diagonal tube instead of the sides of the diagonal tube. The serial number is KC 25298, so I am assuming it is a US made bicycle from 1983. I have been trying to figure out what model this bicycle is for months. I can post pictures of it but it is a bike that I converted into a fixed gear so none of original components are on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. it is from 1983 and a USA market model. It's probably at least mid-range, based on the top mounted shifter boss. Pictures may help. What size seat post does it take? I assume it's a repaint? Are there any other brazed-on fittings or have they are been removed?

I bought the frame from someone who cut off the braze-ons and did an atrocious paint job so I had it professionally powder coated. I think there was a braze-on on the top side of the top tube and the top of one of the rear stays. I am not sure about the seatpost size but the one currently on the bike is a SR/Sakae Laprade fluted seatpost. I think it is 26.6 though.

My bad I forgot to mention that it had bottle bosses. I will be able to take some pictures of it soon hopefully. What kind of pics would be the most helpful?

It's been repainted by the previous owner, but according to him, it used to be a dark green frame. The head tube badge is the one with the red/blue/yellow square in the middle.
I'm not too good with parts etc, but the owner says it is original Suntour friction shifters (mounted on the top tube) and other old Shimano parts and an American Flyer crank.
The serial number is KS292493, so I would assume that means a US-made frame pre-1975? Would it be possible to narrow it further down?

This seems to be an active Nishiki thread, so figured readers may be interested in the history of my unusual Nishiki Landau, which I have owned since 1978.
Though it isn't strictly a "vintage" Landau, due to the fact that it was stripped of its original components months after its original sale, it has served me well over many years. I have taken it out for a few short rides recently as part of my recovery from a bad injury last year.

I have an Olympic serial #G1185. My bike is older than I am!!!
Is there anywhere denoting a good history of the different Nishiki models? I read that Olympics were 5-spd freewheels, and the Olympic 12s had a 6-spd. But mine is just a regular Olympic with a 6-spd freewheel.
I'll have to look into the components... off the top of my head, the crank is a Sugino VP, the brakes are Dia-Compe, and the derailleurs are Shimano. It had Araya rims when I bought it, but both were damaged in separate crashes and now I have a Vuelta Airline II up front and a Sun rim out back (original hubs, though).

Here is my 1991 Nishiki Backroads set up in winter commuter mode, it seems to match the serial number scheme posted previously for Derby-built bikes. Serial number = R920610284 - year '91, day 206, serial 0284. It looks exactly like an early '92 model posted earlier in this thread, with the same equipment - 21sp RapidFire Shimano 200GS components, 48/38/28 biopace rings, 13-30t cassette.

quick question. I bought a mystery frame, steel-lugged...I have a faint feeling it might be a Nishiki but the serial number under the bottom bracket is a bit hard to read.

I was just looking over my old Nishiki in my garage today and thinking about updating it to use as my commuter bike. It is a 1985 Sport which I bought in April of 1986. It has almost all the original parts (saddle is Avocet). I also have the 1985 Nishiki catalogue, the original owners manual, and my original receipt. Are you interested in any information regarding this bike and its components? Or would you like a copy of the catalogue or owners manual? I didn't have time today to read all 17 pages of this thread to see if you already have this information. Let me know and I'll be happy to post some photos and find serial numbers.
Also, if anyone has something to offer about replacing the downtube shifters. I don't really like them and they don't hold anymore. Otherwise I really like this bike! Thanks in advance.
