Gotcha. I purchased this in the Berkeley, California and saw at least two others on the streets of San Francisco. I used to see one regularly on my way to work - I guess it was a guy commuting to work. Due to the location, an idea is that this was brought from Asia.

I just searched the database and I have data on one other 1987 Prestige. It's definitely USA market and has an Alpha 5000 rear derailleur, so it would appear that WCCS invoked the "specifications subject to change without notice" clause.

Here's a 1980 Nishiki International I recently flipped. Serial number is KJ24216. When I bought it, the original handlebars had been replaced with a Scott Drop-in bar, so I felt justified in trying out some moustache bars on it. I like the way it turned out. Component highlights include a Sugino Super Maxy 52/40 crankset, Suntour Power Shifters and a Cyclone GT rear derailleur. Frame is double-butted chromoly by Kawamura.

I'm rehabilitating a Nishiki Modulus. Does anyone know where decals can be obtained? This is not a 'period correct' rebuild, since it has to be repainted, most likely powdercoated. (Previous hideous 'rattle can' special, hid what was left of the decals.)
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I picked up this Nishiki Olympic 12 at a garage sale. I gave it a quick wipe down, but it's going to need a thorough cleaning. Here's the run down. It's a chromoly maintube frame with Suntour Vx derailers. The serial number is KI 12158 so the frame was made in 1979, same for the front derailer that was manufactured in March of 79. However the rear derailer was made in September 79. So I'm thinking this is a early production 1980. The rims are alloy with a decal that says "ARAYA Satylite Plating". Plating???? After being used heavily by the first two owners, then being assigned garage duty for the last 4or 5 years, it rides amazingly well. Here are some pics.

Nishiki serial KA 14930
Just acquired a Nishiki (KA 14930) with Campy Nuovo record group. Plan on keeping it original while riding it recreationally.Nishiki_pro 107..jpgNishiki_pro 096..jpgNishiki_pro 022..jpgNishiki_pro 166..jpgNishiki_pro 040..jpgNishiki_pro 094..jpgNishiki_pro 109..jpgNishiki_pro 065..jpgNishiki_pro 035..jpgNishiki_pro 031..jpgNishiki_pro 170..jpg

Thought I'd copy this background on the bike that I posted to the introductions forum.
"A little background on the bike relayed to me by the former owner: The bike was built in Chico CA in the early 80's for a woman who had been a sponsored rider for an Italian frame manufacturer. She had originally acquired the Campagnolo group for the sponsor's frame a couple of years before but when she lost the sponsorship she had to return the frame so she then had it put onto this Nishiki pro frame. She continued to race for years in the 80's on this bike and rode it until a couple of years ago when she sold it to the guy i bought it from. Almost everything is original to that except for some chain rings and brake hoods. I have a beater men's saddle on it right now and have acquired a longer stem to fit my torso. It is a fantastic bike can't wait to get the new stem on it this weekend so I will stop killing my back."

I have a Nishiki Pacific 5. It's a 5 speed w/ 26" wheels I got from my dad. My serial number is 5139187. Can anyone tell me more about this bike?

I can not get your attachment to open. You will probably have to repost, attaching the pic via the BF procedures.

When I first saw that Pacific 5, I immediately said 1985 on the basis of the long wheelbase, bullhorn bars and logo style. It all smacked of a citified version of an early ATB. Then I noticed the Unicrown forks. They didn't have those in 1985.
It's obviously a city bicycle and the long reach side pull brakes and Ashtabula crankset indicate entry level, though the year is tough. Could we get a pic of the head emblem and rear derailleur?

Here's the head emblem.
The bike was purchased around 1985 in Longview Washington from a now defunct bicycle shop. I assumed it was a stocker because my dad wasn't much of a rider. I think he used it twice before it sat for decades.

I must be wrong about the Uni-Crown debut because the head emblem confirms my impression regarding the logos. They were one year only - 1985.
Cold you get the model name off the derailleurs for my database? TIA.

Italian threading would be unlikely. Based on the serial number, it's a 1981 frame made in Japan by Kawamura. Of course, if it's an Ultimate, it may still have Campagnolo dropouts, but it looks more like a Professional.

Hey everyone. I apologize this won't have pictures. My computer seems to be not working but I am curious about this Olympic I just picked up so I am posting from my phone and attachments are a hassle. Might put some up from work. A little internet searching on the bike lead me here. So hello. Here's the bike in words:
Frame is red with white seat tube, head tube and form. Simple head badge/sticker with and N and nishiki in black lines. From other info on the internet I think this frame was the '87? The interesting part is the serial number (which I triple checked) - GC846365. CG would make sense, right? Maybe someone at the factory stamped the letters backwards?
Anyway, rest of the bike: Shimano STI shifters and derailleurs - friction front, 6 speed index rear. Shimano cranks with biopace rings. Shimano brakes and levers. Doublebutted 4130.
I really like the coloring of this bike. Looks real nice with a white zefal frame pump and white bar tape also. And the fit and the price were right. I am going to enjoy riding this one.

Welcome to the forums chrshrrs. Yes, you're probably right about the serial number. BioPace came out in 1983, but wasn't common on road bicycles the first year. Indexed 12 speed, assuming it's OEM (and not Dura-Ace) would place it no earlier than 1986. Two tone paint was also common during this period. If there's a "sports series" bar running though the IKI of the Nishiki logo, then it's definitely a 1987 model. Even if this is a match, the members are still going to want to see photos.
