Motobecane Grand Record?

Found one at the local thrift shop that looks to be in decent to good condition. Mid 70's with a 531 frame and Campy Nuvo recorder.
I know this is a vague question, but do you think it's worth $100?

dck 02-23-08 04:42 PM

Absolutely.

Nice bike if its in decent shape.

Duchey 02-23-08 04:53 PM

That's what I thought. I'll post some pics when I get back:)

No.

I think it's worth at least $250. ;)

^^ HA! Let's hope. Well, I got her and she looks to be in better condition than I first thought. She's either been very well cared for or ridden very little.
The only thing that bums me out is a small ding in the frame, but other than that she's got everything in the right place (except the saddle).

Pic's are kinda bad, but it's getting dark here so I had to take them inside with bad lighting.

The nasty ding:(

Funny thing about this bike. It was purchased at the same bike shop in Beverly Hill's that my thrift shop Grand Prix was.

My first REAL frame!

Nuovo looks to be in great condition.

Wow! Nice find!

Duchey 02-23-08 07:12 PM

^You don't think that "ding" is a big deal do you? I'm pretty new to the vintage bike game and that "ding" almost kept me from buying this bike, but it also helped me to talk the guy down from $100 to $80 otd;)

el twe 02-23-08 07:43 PM

No way, that's nothing for a steel frame. Awesome catch!

Duchey 02-23-08 07:48 PM

^sweet! Time to clean her!

dck 02-23-08 08:34 PM

Yes indeed, very nice. Looks to be perhaps a '74 or '75. The rear derailleur should have a patent date on it. The GR was right below the Le Champion in Motobecane's production lineup. Full 531 frame and fork. Fine bike.

You got a really sweet deal!

retyred 02-23-08 10:58 PM

What a great deal! Does it have Campi hubs? Definitely Catch of the Day.

unworthy1 02-23-08 11:03 PM

it shouldn't have come with Campy hubs stock (most likely Normandy Competition Luxe) but this bike might have different wheels. In any case: one Hell of a Deal, (and I just bought one of these recently, too, but paid more than $80!)

Uh, It's still worth a $100 for the parts but that "ding" is a bad dent with a crease. It is a big deal in my eyes.

Duchey 02-23-08 11:37 PM

Started to tear it down and I just cant believe how clean this thing is. Looks like the rear wheel has been off just a hand full of times in it's life by the condition of the drop outs.

IRT unworthy: Yep, she's got Normandy Competition Luxe with the stickers still on it. I'm starting to think this bike was just a garage queen.

IRT Otis: Yep, it makes me sick to see that dent, but it so damn clean I just couldn't pass it up.

Found a 76 on the bottom of the Nuovo.

This bike is turning out to be a real easy clean, just gotta get the BB serviced and the wheels trued and she'll be ready to ride.
