A Cinelli stem... in titanium?
 

I need to replace the 85mm stem on my Trek for a 110mm/26.4 one and have found this one for sale in the UK:

Does anyone know this stem? Or what vintage it might be? There's nothing on Velobase.

Pretty sure it's the Chiapucci era. Mid 90s I think.

that's the Cinelli Pinnochio stem- not titanium however but rather it's formed using one of the Columbus Nivacrom steel tubings. The titanium Cinelli stem that the seller is confusing it with was called Grammo and came in both 'quill' and 'ahead 'style versions.

That's Cinelli's "Pinnochio" chromoly steel stem. The item should not be listed as titanium. Cinelli did make a titanium quill stem for 26.4 bars - the "Grammo". Ebay seller "ital-tecno" cleared out hundreds of them last year in different sizes. I think they sold off the whole inventory. You might call them and ask though, they're a good seller to deal with. The Pinnochio stem is pretty good in its own right, its just going to be quite a bit heavier.

...and no, I didn't get it with the frame. I bought the frame to go with the stem I had. A weird counterpoint to the way it NORMALLY happens.

dookie, that's very nice but I don't suppose you have a 'before-photo' do you?

Does anyone know if it is possible to completely remove the Cinelli coating from their stems, at home and by hand? I have a really chewed up one and have got the coating off in places but in others can hardly make and impression on it, despite using Emery cloth, wire wool and loads of Autosol.

you need to use easy-off oven cleaner or some similar product to remove the anodizing before hitting it with the sand paper and finishing it off with polish.
