Also, here is my other Ross, a 98 Chimera Hybrid which is a my regular commuter when it's not snowing. It's actually quite functional. I've also added fenders.

I have a ROSS Mt. St. Helens (shown here). It's been great. I've been riding it about 70mi a week (except for lately, too much snow and slush on the roads). Just replaced the BB.

Hi, Granted I have not read every post on this thread, I just don't have that much time. But here's a really dumb question does anybody have a set of Jim Redcay decals. I have a hand built in my collection that was originally candy apple red (or fire engine red) with gold accents, I got it used and the paint was beat. I striped it and refinished it and raced it for a year or so before the down tube cracked at the head tube lug. I managed through the original ordering shop to get it repaired, but since it had been refinished they sent it back nude. I've never taken the time during the past 20 years to correct this, I've never built it back up. But as my life and interests have change I'm ready to restore it the best I can. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and when I had mine set up with a mix of Campy (dérailleurs, brakes and hubs) and Shimano (dura-ace DX the 1" pedal axle model) it weighed in around 21 pounds. I ran an aluminum covered wooden front rim sew-up, still have it light as ever and straight and a mix of ? origin on the back with a hugh silk sew-up I got 1000's of miles from. literally. it was mounted for 2 years never flatted and I was doing 250 + miles a week and racing on it. Finally retired due to dry rot, it developed a growth in the side wall. Anyway, My Ross Jim RedClay was my first real race bike iit's full of memories, I'd like to do it justice.

I've got a 6'11" 16 year old 10th grade son who claims he wants to do some long distance road bike riding with me. So I started searching around for a bike big enough for him. Quickly learned I can get nothing that is mass-produced that would work. Looked into having something custom made but the price tag really concerned me cause - hey he's 16 so he may ride it a dozen times and then hang it up in the garage. A guy then suggested that I search the Internet for a 27 inch (69CM) frame. I actually ended up buying two of them. The first I bought was a 1983 Raleigh Super Record that is in basically mint condition having been in a guys basement covered for the last 20 years. It has Suntour components, shifters mounted on the stem, and brake levers in the up and down position on the handlebars. It is a 10 speed. The second one I bought was a 27 inch Shogun Cro-Mo 500. I think it is a late 1980's / very early 1990's bike. It was in very very rough shape but it was lighter and the components were much nicer - Shimano Deore components, triple crank, a 6 speed cluster, with the shifters on the down tube. I have completely rebuilt the bike and even had the frame powder coated black. It is now a beautiful bike but it is naked as I need to find some Shogun decals. Anyone have any leads. Both bikes of course have 27 inch wheel sets and are friction shifters.

Next thing I have to figure out for my son is what to do about pedals / shoes. Being 6'11" he wears a size 18 / 19 shoe. Does anyone have anyleads on bicycle shoes that big? If not, how about pedals with extra big cages and straps? Any other ideas.

I would consider selling the Raleigh Super Record if someone is interested.

I can't help you with the shoes, I wear a size 15 shoe 4x wide, and have never been able to find a cycling shoe to fit. I run with platform pedals only.

Original decals may be tough to find, your best bet is to track down some old Shogun dealers that may have a few floating around. If not try eBay. A place like cyclart.com can also do custom decals, but if you aren't super picky about them being exact, most sign shops can cut you something similar in vinyl.

i Have a Ross Mt. Whitney in process, with all Campy group, the decals were kind of beat up, i took it to a local sign shop , it took a while but he matched the 2 layer Ross sticker very well. mine is chrome so there isnt a clear coat to get in the way, it looks like new........................Jim

campykestral, I am impressed that you are putting all-campy components and restoring decals on a Ross. Most of the riders in these forums wouldn't look twice at a Ross. I think your new decals probably cost more than my '85 Gran Tour is worth. Enjoy your Mt. Whitney.

I searched through this thread for any info already posted on this topic, but I didn't see my specific question addressed--

I recently found a Ross Armstrong bike-- the odd thing is that it says on the frame "Made in England".

I'll post pics if no one is familiar with this bike, but I was hoping someone could tell me *any* thing about it. I plan on restoring it, but I'd like to know how much money I should invest in it before I start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is a Ross that I picked up and currently have listed on CL. It is a Ross Professional Gran Tour II. Put a salvaged replacement saddle on it, did the lube and adjust thing and put on a new pair of tires. It has Shimano Eagle II de'ailler, suntour ratcheting stem shifters and Rigida alloy rims. Lugged 1020 steel frame.
