Need information about old Bianchi frame
I am going with the advice of East Hill and seeking the wisdom from the C&Vers. I have a Bianchi Limited steel frame with serial number JS11179. Of the original components I have a Suntor Cyclone M-II front derailer.
My questions is that I notice a slight dent in the chainstay by the cranks. I am told it is possible the frame was designed this way and it is not an accident. I'm curious if anyone here knows if this dent in the following pictures is intentional or not. If you need more details on the frame I'd be happy to answer them. See original thread here http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=392966 Thanks for any help. http://comradesoffunk.org/jon/dent0.jpg http://comradesoffunk.org/jon/dent1.jpg |
To my eyes that dent is not be design. It's common for stays to be clearenced there, but then you'll see a uniform impression in the tube made from a mandrill. That looks like something got caught in the chain wheel and wedge in there.

So would it be safe to ride on this? East Hill |
I would say it is okay to ride. There doesn't seem to be any damage at the BB joint, and it's also right at the bridge tube behind it. It might be a little unsightly, but not dangerous in my humble opinion?,,,,BD

yeah, they caught a stick in there. The paint loss at the top is the giveaway. Nothing horribly wrong or dangerous. You should find someone with alignment equipment to see if the wheels still track okay; it can be straightened if not.

So it looks as if everyone agrees that the bike is ok to ride? East Hill |
Yeah, my LBS told me that the alignment looked good, but this dent was discovered after that sevice, so the mechanic did not look at this dent.
Thanks for all the information! |
Well, it sounds as if you are cleared for takeoff! Enjoy the bike :D .
