My "new" old Bikes
Hi, haven't posted anything in a while but i wanted to share my bikes.
the first one is an old ludo bike from the "80-90's". Bought it from an old man living who lives nearby, he bought it a long time ago and didn't ride much. It has a 3-speed Sturmey Archer rear hub (AW3). The bike is in near perfect condition, has always been kept in a heated garage. I'm going to give it as a present to my father who will use it as a daily commuter. Cost of the bike? €70! Only thing to do is put on a new saddle because the standard one is plastic... (ouch...) Pictures! http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG http://users.pandora.be/decharel/Bik...%20(Small).JPG |
Next up is my daily beater, it has been through a lot of abuse. including 2 car collisions and city vandals.
the only thing that was broken is the chain casing, the rear fender and the rear wheel. So i'm hoping to rebuild and clean the bike this summer. It's a singlespeed Batavus Comfort, and i bought it for €15 some years ago. it's more then due to some love and care... And the last bike, is one i bought for my girlfriend. A Batavus "Flying Dutchman"
The lady i bought it from said it was broken and useless, i gave her €10 and took the bike home. I was in kind of a hury and when i got home i saw it wasn't a singlespeed like the lady said. Under 15years (or more) of dust there was an Sturmey Archer rear hub! (again an AW) It has some parts missing but maybe i can order them somewhere. I'm also hoping to fix this bike this summer... Sorry for the picture quality but they are taken with my cellphone; my camera is broken :( |
apprecaite the contrast from old to new. Great classic lines. You should be proud.

EcoRacer,
All excellent bikes IMHO (but I am biased:p) I assume you are in the EU somewhere. There is a online bike shop in the UK that sells old Sturmey Archer stuff. Depending on where you are, it may still be available at an LBS. I love the look of the Ludo. Your pictures look good to me, better ones than I take with a regular camera:o Aaron:) |
I'm from Belgium, so it makes it easier getting hold of old EU bikes.
I like old bikes, they just look better then the new generation. They have a lot more character. And on some older bikes the build quality is a lot better then most of the newer bikes. |
I love the Ludo, Great pics. this is bike porn for me.:D

That Ludo is gorgeous! I love the partial chain guard, and is that a double kickstand? I noticed the bike was standing awfully straight, without the usual lean. If I could get my hands on a few of those kickstands, I'd install them on all my bikes :-).

Love the Ludo its so cool

Is that an integral rack built into the Ludo? The chainguard and chainwheel are both very cool...

I like everything about the Ludo, except, you're right, that seat sucks. A good leather one will make it perfect.
The Batavus logo? Really a three-wheel bike with riders facing in opposite directions? Kind of like the U.S. Government...if only both riders were pedaling furiously. |
Awright - get to post some more pics of my bike :D And I just took them too. Anyway, 1991 Miyata 914SE NOS off ebay. Just received it yesterday, and had maiden voyage today.

I Just love the Ludo, too bad i can't keep it.
The rack in the rear is in one piece with the rest of the frame. And the double kickstand is amazing. i never saw it before one a bicycle. I'm already getting too attached to the bike... |
