First of all, I apologize for not having any photographs. One of the guys at a small, old lbs here in Chicago just showed me some of their bikes in the basement. There was a Gloria track frame/fork ($1000) , a Fiorelli, Raleigh DL-1 ($500)etc., at fairly high prices.

On the wall, however, was a chrome Cinelli (old logo stickers) with Reynolds (501?) tubing. It appeared to be Nuovo Record equipped, though without any cranks or pedals. It had the drilled out head tube lugs and a made in Italy sticker. It definitely appeared to be legitimate.

We went upstairs and asked the owner how much it was, and he (in a cranky manner) said, "I wouldn't sell that unless someone waved $1500 in front of me."

Condition was pretty dirty, though I didn't see any rust. It was tubular equipped, and the tires and the brake lever hoods definitely needed replacing.

I was really intrigued by a Reynolds Cinelli. Anyone have any info? What do you think of the price? I really, really don't need another expensive bike at the moment but I'm most definitely intrigued.

I didn't get to spend much time in the basement (under escort only) and wish that I had more info. to offer.

Any thoughts?

You can have dibs on the Cinelli, but you have got to tell me the name of the LBS. I'd like a hard look at the Gloria, I don't think I have ever seen a track frame from them.

Dirt can be cleaned. I got a Regina freewheel cheap because it was dirty, it cleaned up to near perfect condition. I think $1,500 would be a very good price for an all chrome Cinelli, they are somewhat rare. Of course, this depends on condition but some new hoods and tires is insignificant.

Edit: I forgot to add Cinelli made bikes from Reynolds tubing. I have read it was quite common.

I would think the Cinelli certainly worth $1,500., even just for such a frame. All chrome would be an atypical original finish, though I've see a couple other all chrome ones in the last 35 years.

Cino used Reynolds early on, but switched to Columbus soon after he started.

I would run, not walk over, and wave 15 nice crisp Franklin's in the guys face right now!

Of course, over $1k for an old bike is insane, so I've been told.

A 40's vintage Gloria just finished on eBay at $5401. this was a road bike frame, fork, shifter, headset, and derailleur. I think you should maybe get a loan for that Gloria unless it is total crap.

Was the Gloria a Champagne - gold color? About 22" frame? My brother had one back in the 70's, wondering if thats the one.

On the last page is that one of the Schwinn LeTour speed record bikes? I saw one at a Philly or NY shop during the 70's. It had wood rim wheels.

You could get Reynolds 531 from Cinelli in the 60's.

The Cinelli laser track tandem in the Cycle Smithy pics has got to be VERY rare!

No. I know the Gloria you're thinking of. Ones like that can't hold a candle to the one that just sold on eBay. Gloria was a great marque, but they'd lost a lot of their luster by the 1970's. Here's the one that sold a few days ago on eBay:
