Help on indentifying a vintage Pinarello
Hi guys, I need some help on identifying my Gavia. Bottom bracket serial number says "P3008".
However the "P" seems to be eroded away a bit to the extent that the top part of the "P" is gone. Or was it not a P in the first place? This is my first vintage steel and I appreciate any help given. I'll post pics if theres any need. Thanks! |
To my knowlenge, nobody has brken the serial number code for Pinarellos. If you would post some good pictures, maybe we can help. There are some old catalogs on this website that might help.

I have searched on the website, and I couldnt find any Gavia model, so I reckon is made at a later year.

Bumping this thread :)
Ive emailed Pinarello themselves from the official website. Although its a long shot, i took a gamble. Does anyone think they (Pinarello) are able to help? |

I emailed them 2 years ago with a similar question and am still awaiting a response.

Then all is lost :(
|
all is not lost, unless you were to send the bike to, say, me. Then you would have lost it, because I'd be hard pressed to send it back. That is a lovely bike...all of the other serial numbers that we have discussed seem to start with a double first letter, so I would be tempted to hazard a guess that yours is older than mine (an '85).
Do you know what the original parts were on the bike? |
ach, wait. It has an internally routed top tube brake cable, so my hazarded guess was lousy. That has to be later...
|
The components that were on the bike were a pair of Fulcrum Racing 7s (Red) and an old 105 groupset, and I did not know if the owner had swapped those stuff onto the bike itself.
Futhermore, the last owner had left this bike in the LBS hoping to sell it, and it was there for a very long time. However, I've been doing some research, and so far I have determined that my Gavia should be made in the mid 1990s. There were many people with Gavias stating that they were made in that era, and most of them had stated the year 1994. At least I know Im getting somewhere! |
well, it looks much better with campy. and it'll still be going in another 10 years, easy. I'll pay more attention to the next Gavia serial number.

just got an email (computer generated?) from em this morning :) i sure hope it means something to them.
Dear Mr To Hui Hong, Thank you for contacting us. We will answer you as soon as possible. Sincerely, Cicli Pinarello S.p.A. Viale della Repubblica, 12 31050 Villorba (TV) Italy Telephone: +39 0422 420 877 Fax: +39 0422 421 816 E-Mail: infobike@pinarello.com Internet: www.pinarello.com |
Yeah, that's the same email they sent me. Well, at least their computer isn't ignoring your question.

My advice is to send them an e-mail written in Italian and you've gotten an Italian friend to e-mail it to them so they see a "local" address. Promise lots of drinks or maybe a visit from your cousins Vinny and Tony, who live in Napoli.

I might actually give your idea a shot though. |
