Giant Peleton Super Lite? was: What do I have here?

http://picasaweb.google.com/altinos/MysteryBike

Shimano 105 6 speed indexed shifters
Shimano 105 headset (indexed! always wants to stay centered)
braze-on for front dérailleur
internal top tube cable routing

It's obviously a racing frame. The sticker appears to be from a bike shop in Germany. I can't find any other identifying marks, no names on the dropouts, etc.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Seat post is 27.0 if that helps.

EDIT: Apparently it's from Belgium.

EDIT: I was told on Classic Rendezvous that perhaps it's a Giant Peleton Super Lite. Anyone have any more info on that?

Habt mir keine idee..... in really bad German

There was (and still is) a big German bike company, Kalkhoff. I only know this because there was a Kalkhoff on Detroit CL recently, though it looked more like a tourer. Perhaps a racing frame by them?

Just a shot in the dark.

I think Treier is a city in Germany and that's probably a shop. Hey, you could call the phone number on that sticker...

Yep, that's right, Trier is a city in Germany. If you google "Lauter Trier" you will find the following website:

http://www.zweirad-lauter.de/index2.html

It is a bike shop with the same address and phone number as what's on the sticker on your downtube, which is doubtless just a coincidence. According to the "bikes" page,
"We build what you want, systematically! We enable you to set up your bike exactly to your own wishes. All bike models are available with different componentry, each one complete by itself, set up ready to ride. Put your dream bike together with us!"
Which is my free translation of the following:
Wir machen, was Sie wollen - und das mit System! Wir ermöglichen Ihnen, Ihr Bike ganz nach Ihren Wünschen auszustatten. Alle Bikemodelle sind mit verschiedenen Ausstattungsvarianten wählbar, jede für sich ist komplett und fahrfertig ausgestattet. Stellen Sie sich mit uns Ihr Wunschbike zusammen.

Hmm, I wonder if this is someone's dream bike with a custom frame...

I saw that. I was hoping that someone could more easily identify it here before I start shooting out badly translated emails using Babelfish. :) But I did send them this:

Ich suche nach Informationen über ein bestimmtes Fahrrad, das ich vor kurzem kaufte, der habe einen Aufkleber anzuzeigen, daß er von Ihrem Speicher kam. Haben Sie irgendwelche Informationen? Die Abbildungen sitzen an der Adresse oben. Ich entschuldige mich, daß ich nicht Deutsches spreche. Danke!

I received an answer already! Nice.

Hallo ! der Rahmen ist vor etwa 15 Jahren bei uns verkauft worden.
Herkunftsland Belgien.

Grüße aus Trier

Babelfish translation:

Hello! the framework was sold before approximately 15 years with us. Country of origin Belgium. Greetings from Trier

rhm 03-13-08 09:02 AM

Babelfish is a little stiff, isn't it? Try:

... the frame was sold by us about 15 years ago....

I gather it's pretty common for bike shops in Germany and presumably elsewhere in Europe to offer custom bicycles built up on no-name (but very nice) frames. My brother got a touring bike that way several years ago; the frame was made in Slovakia or something, and he's put tens of thousands of miles on it.

What we may never fully know is: How did it make its way to Southfield, MI? :) Maybe a serviceman stationed in Germany bought it & brought it home.

But you can tell us how you got it, ja?

I bought it from a local guy off of Craigslist. He originally acquired it from a friend who wanted him to build it up as a fixie. The seller was about 5'8" so I know it wasn't for him.

I did email him and tell him it was from Belgium, and he thought that was cool.

My first thought was Eddy Merkcx, but I figure if it was such a nice frame, there'd be a lot more indication that it was.

Giant Peleton Super Lite only comes up with mostly non-English results...what a pain. :)
