The only Kabuki I've had was made of a polished stainless steel main triangle with cast aluminum lugs and a regular steel rear. It had stamped dropouts but had chrome plated half stays and fork. I think it was running 650A rims and had cool factory racks front and rear. It was cheezy but cool at the same time. Lightweight? Hell no! Neat? Definently. I think mine was basically a submariner and was built by Bridgestone and branded a Kabuki. I have seen other Kabuki ads and I think they had a full line of bikes like anyone else at the time. Basically.........I'm saying that without pics or more details.......who knows? Could be gaspipe, could be something else.......Sorry I don't have specific info on your particular model of interest. |
Bridgestone was the parent company. They changed the branding to Kabuki duing the 1970s when things from Japan were in high demand. The Submariner was the bike with stainless tubes. They were marketed towards costal areas as being resistant to rust. The other bikes used the same construction with normal steel tubing. I have a SuperSpeed that is Hi-Tensile steel. I would not spend very much on one. If you do get a Kabuki, make sure you get the seat post. Due to the cast lugs, there isn't a pinch bolt. They use a unique seat post that has an expander wedge like on the stem.

From what I found using the search feature of the forum... ;)
T-Mar says... There was a model that did use the die cast lugs with aluminum tubing. It was called the Superlight. The other stuff I found makes it sound a bit like an mid-level model. http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php...uki+superlight |
