It seems like it has been a while since there was an update on the progress of Corky... Heck, it has been long enough that Dr. Deltron painted, dinged up and potentially repainted a frame since the last thread, and we know how deliberate Dr. D's pace is. ;) Doing a paint job is easy, doing a great paint job takes time.

We should try to make sure that Corky gets unveiled before Rad's Tete (if indeed such a creature exists).

Just trying to keep Corky in the news... After all, there has to be an occasional thread where someone can ask who Corky is.

Cyclotoine, if you need help polishing parts just let us know. :D

Well I am sorry. I guess I owe the forums some photos of parts going on the bike. But I am a big fan of the "TA-DA" it's finished type of presentation. I have a gazelle in my living room waiting for a 1R stem and a fixed cup to arrive before if can be built up. I'll hold off on polishing the gazelle's stem regardless of cosmetic condition in favour of focusing on Corky. Finishing the gazelle has to happen first (really should only take an hour once the parts arrive) so I have a vintage bike to ride with all this nice weather we're having.

Progress on Corky to date:

Briefing on current situation:

Corky's cranks are a disaster, they're a pre date code set of 177.5mm record cranks that had a dip from strap rub and deep corrosion around the pedal holes. I used a dremmel to take that area down a mm or two but the flute faded in the process (the lutes are shallow on these old cranks) So I tried to use the dremel to deepen the flute. Bad idea now the flute is non-uniform... uggg. These cranks suck. So I bought a set of 180mm TA cranks (which is what corky had originally) and will be running a compact 46/36 double, for the time being at least.

After buying 3 NOS regina 5s freewheels and selling all of them I bought a 4th which I had to exchange. it's used but should do the trick. It should arrive anyday now. Only a week ago did I acquire a period correct record 2 bolt seatpost for corky and I think it may actually be too old:eek:, but better too old than 2 new for this project.

TA crank and chainrings

Issues: strapping the 9.4V makita to the work bench isn't cutting it as a polishing wheel. Besides I'm going to burn out my motor. I need to buy a bench grinder.

Spokes
Cables and housing

Since I am trying to graduate this April and moving May 1st, so no time to do these jobs right now. And I need to find a full time job in May.

Expected time of Corky unveiling: Mid to Late Summer.

Today is actually a bad day for me. I'm sitting on the forums because I am waiting for my supervisors to get back to me and am at a bit of a road block with my school work until then.

Yeah, school and work do need to be taken care of.

Too bad about the cranks, but the TA set should go nicely.

Hopefully the job hunt will be quick and relatively painless, and provide you with the ability to squeeze in some cycling.

I have a non-vintage touring frame I am assembling (or saying I am) for commuting, and it isn't together yet... I am however considering upgrades. :(

I should at least try assembling before I worry about upgrades.
