Pinarello Montello Back From Cyclart.

My 1987 Montello is back with new paint scheme and decals.
This their Cat 1 finish. Pics are with the original chrome fork
and with the carbon fork I plan on using.

Very nice! I notice you had the downtube shifter bosses removed. Is that something Cyclart did for you?

So, what's wrong with the STEEL fork?

Looks good from the distance, don't like the Cyclart paintjob transfer...but hey, I paint my own.

I wonder if you could pay EXTRA for them not to use it?

I think CyclArt did a good job with your frame. It looks very nice. Hopefully they clear-coated it. I recognize the before picture only too well. One of my mid-80's Pinarellos had those quick-release decals, too. I don't know why, but it seems like of all the mid-80's Italian bikes I've owned or seen, Pinarello's decals peeled off the easiest.

But either way, the bike came out very, very nice.

Add me to the list of folks giving unasked-for advice to keep the steel fork.

The frame is gorgeous, though.

For safety reasons, I also vote for the steel fork.

A Cat I finish must have cost you a pretty penny (I chose Cat II for Capo #1), but Jim and Susan and the crew do meticulous work.

For those who ask, yes, this is a clear-coated finish.

I don't think his decals are going to peel:

Cat. 1tmCustom Finish Carefully hand sanded multiple coats of
primer, filler, color, & clear (over decals) achieve an unmatched depth
and gloss. Rust & surface defects filled. Our most popular finish. $450

After 4-1/2 years, mine show no signs of peeling.

Shouldn't cost you anything. They've touched up or repainted 4 of my frames. I've always asked them up front not to put their logo on it and they've always honored my request.

I've seen pics of your chrome Pinarello. It really is spectacular. The red accents it well.

Looks really good. I too replaced a cro mo fork w/ a carbon, however, I did so for only one season before putting the cro mo one back on.

I reinstated the steel one, as it looks much better (to me) and gives a distinctive ride---although there is a little more "road buzz" attached to it. I guess one either likes this buzz or not.

They claim they use it so it will be recognized as a repaint rather than an original in the future. They could hide it better so it seemed less like an ad I think.

Steel fork is fine but the carbon takes off 3/4 of a pound
And goes with the rest of the look of the bike I'm going for.
What do you mean by "paintjob transfer"?
Looks good up close too but can't post 2meg pics here.

Cat 1 paint has several clear coats.
Looks like glass and can't feel the decals.

Yes it was your beautiful Montello that inspired me to strip the old paint on mine to find they had sandblasted it at the factory 20 years ago. I think I found this forum with a search for OLD PINARELLOS where I found pics of yours.
Mean meaning to contact you again. I notice on yours that the brake cable runs straight into the top tube?
Mine always had to use some ferules or the cablehousing would be sucked into the tube.
What did you use on yours ?
