"Rivendell-ised" '86 Schwinn Passage

Though you all might enjoy some pics of my friends '86 Schwinn Passage (especially PastorBob!).

A bike collector friend of mine bought this bike, along with ANOTHER IDENTICAL Passage, off Ebay a few years ago. He sold this bike in the pics to another friend of mine in April 2007 (I initiated the sale) and I have it temporarily to do a tune up on it.

Anyway this bike had only thirty original miles on it. Before he sold it he completely stripped it of all its components and updated it, much of the new stuff was either NOS or purchased from Rivendell Bicycle Works. The other Passage, which had ZERO miles on it, had the seatstays brazed on wrong and I'm not sure what happened to that but it might have been Ebay-ed or sold at the Cirque show in North Carolina along with all the original parts. I regret that I didn't take pics of it last year when my friend bought it all brand-new looking but this is what it looks like now after 1200 miles of riding. Needless to say he is in love with it and can't wait for this year's riding season.

Here is a rundown of the parts from Rivendell:

Nitto B115 h/bar and Technomic stem, Tange Levin CD h/set
brown Tressostar cloth tape
wheels: polished Araya (I think RC540) rims 32h, NOS RX100 hubs, stainless spokes
12-28 8-spd cassette, Deore rr. derailler, 8-spd bar-end shifters
Sugino XD2 crank 46-36-26, Sram PC48 chain, Stronglight cartridge bottom bracket

NOS or very lightly used stuff:
Avocet Touring II saddle, vintage Dura-Ace s/post, Shimano AT50 cantis and 105 levers
vintage Deore LX ft. derailler, MKS Sylvan quill pedals w/Christophe clips and straps
Michelin Tracer 700x28 tires

Great pics and bike.

I love seeing bikes with bars up where they belong.

Nice build! You could probably do that build for less than the cost of just a Rivendell frame, too.

The Bridgestone Owner's Bunch would call it a "Bobish" build.

Hey,
I *was* a member of BOB and I'd call it beautiful! I am jealous.

Btw, have you used those tires before? Was wondering what you thought of Tracers.

I just remembered that I have one of those Sugino cranksets stored away. I guess I need to find a bike to put it on. I think it was the perfect choice for that Passage.
