My Kabuki experience.
Picked up an old Bridgestone Kabuki a couple of days ago.. a 12 speed.. Suntour and Silstar componentry.. all original. Been riding a full suspension kona for the last 2.5 years, so naturally, the bike felt different from the start. I don't have much else to compare it to, but I have to say it rides really well.. feels great. Definitely on the heavy side.. but if you're willing to climb, it'll take you up any hill, no problem.. Everything is really smooth.. I'm not sure how old the frame is, but I would have to guess the previous owners of this bike gave it all the love and care it needed. So far, the only thing I had to replace was a cable.. The frame is 57 or 58, i'm not sure.. Has simple lugs. Also, I'm able to loosen the seat tube and move my post up and down without a problem, so I guess the threaded system is out? Beautiful ride.. Really smooth. It almost feels like honey flowing.. I don't know..
I found it on craigslist. Its owner was moving out of the country and was giving it away for free.. Which I think is really cool of somebody to do. This is not going to be a fixie conversion.. I would eventually like to repaint it, and swap some of the componentry for lighter-weighing hardware. I'll put up some photos later tonight. |
Some photos would be nice. Would you say it's an 80's bike? You will probably get a few enjoyable years of riding out of it.
