Now that I have your attention, here's the rest of the pics.
Bike needs detailed cleaning. I just wiped it down and got the storage dust off it. Wheels are dead true. The hubs were restrung from 27" sew ups rims to a pair of 700c Sun CR18 clinchers and campy drop blocks added for the brakes. It needs a bottom bracket overhaul, but the rest seems to work well. The lugs are - weird. They look like weathered bronze, but it acts like bronze paint. I think they were shiny gold when it was new. I'm also confused by the white substance at their edges. I'm not sure how to proceed. with detailing that part. Anyway, here's the rest of the pics I took yesterday. http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/8...rary459zt7.jpg http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/6...rary462cz3.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3...rary471zi6.jpg http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9...rary464gp6.jpg http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/1...rary463wb1.jpg http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/2...rary465hh5.jpg http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6...rary467ak8.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/5...rary466py3.jpg http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/3...rary469jv3.jpg http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/1...rary470qa3.jpg |
One more - it limited me to 10 photos per post.

OMG!:eek::eek::eek:
 I WANT That! My size! Gimme! Danny |
Oh man I love it.
|
Gorgeous! I can't help but wonder what the CR18's replaced... It looks like someone peeled off the "Made in China" tag on the head tube :)
|
That is a sharp-looking bike. Given the frame's vintage and long brake reach, I wonder if it was designed originally for Weinmann Vainqueur centerpulls. That period's all-Campagnolo driveline (high-flange hubs, cranks, downtube shifters, and derailleurs) always looks beautiful.
|
Wow! Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
According to an ad found on Classic Rendezvous the Mark IX was built up using Weinmann Vainqueur center pull brakes. http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Swe...ainless_ad.htm |
That is a beautiful bike! Like JohnE, I pretty much love everything with the early 70's Campy stuff.
Since this is a Crescent: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/ima...n/crescen1.jpg |
Nice looking bike!
On the full bike shots, I can only say it must be interesting to ride with the handlebar oriented like that. :) |
Meh, the pinch bolt was loosened for shipping. S'all good now.
God Bless the Crescent Girl. |
It's absolutely stunning. Congratulations!
I wonder if any other builders were using stainless steel tube sets in 1971. Columbus Metax stainless tubes came out in the mid/late nineties followed by Reynolds 953 and Columbus XCr in 2005/2006, but I haven't seen any stainless steel frames before that except for the Crescents. |
Bootaful!
|
Were you being sarcastic when referring to the white paint lining the lugs?
|
Anyone have any ideas on how to brighten up those lugs? Maybe it some sort of thin brass plating?

Small world. |

Although the catalog pages on the CR website don't specify the lugs, they certainly appear to be Nervex Professional. Since Nervex didn't offer stainless steel lugs in the seventies, my guess is that there is some kind of plating on them to prevent them from rusting. After all, it would be criminal to have an essentially rustproof frame material (Swedish Stainless Sandvik alloy tubing) joined by rusty lugs.
I would proceed with great caution in attempting to polish the lugs as you really don't know how thick the plating is (if, in fact, it is plated). |
