Is this a record price for a UO8?

$209.50 plus $65 shipping.

Good Lord - red label Simplex, steel wheels, and all. That's an expensive crab trap. :)

Must have been the "cool art deco lugs" that pulled in the bidders!

Why not put the bars in a proper position?
It is a very clean bike though.

Easy - copious excellent photos of a well-maintained example that has been cleaned everywhere possible = buyers.

One has to have a few screws loose in their head to pay that price though. Get ready for another influx of newbies fishing for Antiques Roadshow values for their UO's here at C&V...

Gee, I've got one the same color, or close too it, UO-8 with alloy rims (one is a Super Champion). I'd be glad to get half that amount.:D

I've seen a couple of UO-8's clear $400 on e-bay in the past. Life does not always make sense.

Hmmm...should I be selling mine? :) It's probably going to cost that much before I'm done with it and it's ready for the road. Oh well, at least I was able to pick up an Ideal saddle for it off the 'Bay for $16 bucks recently.

Actually I have my eye on another bike on eBay right now for far more serious money. IF I win that you'll see the complete story here soon. That would be my project for this and several more summers and might result in the modern Bianchis heading for Craig's list. Who needs modern bikes anyway? :)

I knew which bike it was before I clicked. Blue is one of the best colors for a UO8. It photographs well and highlights the details. That bike has excellent paint, decals and NO rust. It would cost less to buy that bike than it would to buy a $100 bike that had bad paint, torn decals and tons of rust.

Its more than I'd pay but blue does look nice...

I would have replaced the ratty brake cable housing, as well.

I guess I should hang on to my UO-8. :)

For some reason UO-8's ARE going up! I have had no problem selling parts for way more than they used to go for!

USAZorro 04-23-08 10:39 AM

What kind of saddle is that on it? I couldn't make it out. Perhaps that had something to do with the sale price?

trhouse 04-23-08 11:54 AM

I believe this is the saddle although the one in the ad is a lot more worn,

You never know when someone is looking for the bike they had as a kid, or the bike they wanted as a kid. That can make people get a little loose with their wallets.
