[QUOTE=reverborama;6589547]I think I've found a pair of Dura-Ace hubs (post 1997 / pre 10-speed) that can be brought down to 126mm by removing the spacer as Charles mentions. These are 32 hole hubs and I happen to have a pair of 32 hole rims I bought recently for an "unspecified future project."
QUOTE] You do not want pre 9-speed Dura-Ace cassette hubs. First off, they have a custom freehub that is roughly as obtainable as the Holy Grail. To remove the freehub requires a custom tool that I would guess less than 1 in 50 shops will have, and only a handful of current mechanics will know anything about. It gets worse: 6/7 speed Dura-Ace hubs (126mm) have this special freehub, plus they feature Uniglide splines, and then they require a special threaded first-position cog that is as extinct as the Dodo bird. A triple threat. There is a good reason why these old Dura-Ace hubs are cluttering up Ebay, in that they are freaking worthless. Well made though.... 7-speed Hyperglide cassette hubs are a common fixture at every community bike shop. They can be had for next to nothing. |
