Riggio bikes?
 

i'm looking at a riggio americana road bike for sale.
it looks like a quality frame... but i can't find much info on it (dates, tubing, etc..).
i've been told that it was a private label from NY and that the frame was made by either pinarello or viner.
it has a complete shimano 105 group. is $250 too much for this bike?

If it fits you and you want it, I think $250 pretty ok.

I think thats a good deal, that bike is very sharp , and looks very high quality. I like the fact that its a private label, gives it a better panache so to speak.

The nice folks at this website have created a repository of many bike catalogs. However, the Riggio catalog in this site doesn't have the model frame that you/we have.

Riggios were made by Viner.

The bike frame in the your photo looks exactly like mine but mine is cobalt blue. My frame is Columbus SLX and the rear brake stay comes to a point right above the hole (I don't know how else to describe it)

The Riggio Americana is the SL frameset that is on the last page of the catalog. Nice, upper middle end bike with SL main tubes and Falk everything else. A very good deal, if it fits, and you like the ride.

That's a different Riggio Americana. The frame that 1/8 and I have have the short rear Campy dropouts 1010B and there are no eyelets on the fork either. Tubing is Columbus SLX. The bike on 1/8's photo is prob from the early 80's. Maybe 1983.

If I recall correctly, the 'Americana' sticker was placed in all Riggios. Of course, I could be wrong. Memory is fuzzy but this what I saw when worked there.

You're right; I stand corrected. The chrome front fork is a quick giveaway.

Good looking bike, and the components alone sound like they are worth it. I would jump all over it.

And the bike is still available? At $250 I'm amazed no one has bought it yet.

If I recall, the bike looks great but when examined closely, is found to be one of those vehicles that were to be retired via an earlier economic stimulus initiative, where papers were signed after the PO certified, under penalty of perjury, that the entire contents of the provided fast-setting concrete mix container were in fact poured into the frame, or until the frame was full.
Many such cycles clog the Craigslist listings, since the cycles were never required to have been subsequently crushed, as were the cars with similarly-treated engine blocks.

It gives one the willies to think of what our local police departments must have committed to do to earn their share of the stimulus money.
But no one ever discusses that.

that's funny. That was a big fiasco but seems to have been forgotten now. I remember I was unfortunately in the market for new van at the time and walking around a Toyota dealer I couldn't figure out why they had all these ok looking cars that looked a bit under my price range. then I realized they all had something like c4c or cc on the windshield.

A lot of great Jeep 4.0 L engines were trashed in that effort! It is a proven fact that they will last 300-400K miles!

Really sad to see a 4.0 engine treated like that. Best Chrysler engine produced imo, and also should be in a lot more of their heavier vehicles imo.

Since this thread has been resurrected, I was wondering if anyone knows where to find more info about Riggio bikes or how to figure out the year. I bought a Riggio a couple of years back and have never been able to locate info outside of what's already in this thread. Any help is appreciated
