About five minutes ago, already late, I rushed downstairs to jump on my bike and go to class. I am about to unlock it when I take a look at the handlebars. Some ass has decided to unscrew the clamp on my stem and apparently tried to rip off some of my bar tape. I rush back upstairs to look for a tool to tighten it up but for the life of me can't find it in my room. Pissed, I try tightening it by hand to no avail. I see a friend of mine back from his morning run and I tell him about my problem. He says that a couple of our hall mates had this happen to them last night - one of them went for a burrito run and couldn't steer the whole way there. Why would someone do this kind of bull****? Is it fun? I mean, I'm glad they didn't steal my bike or anything, but this is a dick squad move right here.

Next time, put out a fixed-gear'ed MTB that looks good enough to steal - and set the front V-brakes too tight. :D

How about super glueing ball bearings in the stem bolt and seat post binder so people have a harder time messing with your stuff? Kinda a pain to swap parts or make adjustments after being done but that's kinda the point and it's a small price to pay for not eating pavement because of some ******bag having a good time.
Man this kinda stuff makes me mad! I had someone remove the valve on a tire once. That sucked. It was a long walk home 'cause I only had a patch kit. No extra tube.......Hope someone catches the bastage red handed!

I'd rather do the fixed gear/brake stunt. Nothing like a bad experience to convince troublemakers to move their operation somewhere else.

Get some cheap department-store MTB, peel the original labels off, and put Trek decals on it. Do a cheap fixie job on the rear, set the front brakes too tight (with Kool-Stops, preferably). There you go - one suicide machine, to go.

Oh, and put stickers on the handlebars "F*** YOU BIKE THIEVES." If nothing else, it will give them the idea of stealing it.

Removed......It was shrader too so they had access to that special doohickey to get the job done.

Oh,,, so they removed the internal parts of the schrader valve! evil evil!!

I had someone spray paint my saddle once when I locked it up at a bike rack about 8-10pm

I don't generally leave my bike unattended except for my Panasonic in the company bike rack and we have security at work so that's not an issue but why is it always a car full of 16 year old guys that drives quietly up behind you and then screams at the top of their lungs as they floor it and drive away. It's happened so often I don't even pay attention anymore but it just makes you wonder what they're thinking. Morons. And once I stopped in a pub after a ride to have a couple of beers - I brought my bike inside and leaned it against the wall. When I went to leave it was gone. Some idiot had decided to take it for a ride. What I think ticked me off more than that was when I asked the guys sitting around there if they had seen anything they were like, "Yeah, some guy got on it and road off a little while ago." And you didn't think the guy standing over at the bar in spandex shorts and jersey might be the owner of the bike???!!! Sheesh! Well, at least I got it back. I filed a report with the cops and they called me 3 days later to pick it up with a bent front wheel. :(
