Hey everyone, I just won a Suntour Superbe front derailleur for $10.50 on Ebay and the Seller no longer wants to honor the auction. I was waiting to hear from the seller about a total including shipping but instead, got an email saying he's quitting ebay and to get a refund if i've paid already(seller only has 6 auctions in history). Is there anything I should do? This isn't the kind of post I wanted to kick-off with here but alas...

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do. Negative feedback could be left but if they are truly leaving eBay, what would be the point.

yeah, I needed to hear it from someone else i guess. too bad, the superbe front would have completed the matching back and barcon set-up on an old Holdsworth. I'll go back on the bay and fish some more.

Offer him more, maybe he won't quit.

I was thinking about that, but is it possible to navigate that through Ebay? I wouldn't want to go outside of the auction and end up short. With only 6 auctions to his name, the seller isn't too concern about a good track record. The one thing I could do is pay for more "shipping."

I would suggest you move on. Any seller willing to cut ties with ebay leaves buyers with zero leverage. Better to get your money back. Thats one problem with buying from sellers with little feedback. They lose little/nothing and can reappear with a different user name. I have accumulated feedback over seven years and would do almost anything to keep my feedback clean, including giving a super deal (which I have done a few times).

The point would be to keep the seller from "changing his mind" and sticking around after he backs out on this "binding contract" ( :rolleyes: ), I think.

Find out where he lives. We'll send the dogs in after 'em.

But leave that negative feedback; and if there's any avenue for this, report him to eBay. Maybe it will help deter his return.

hey guys, thanks for all the input. I thought about it and have to agree that it's best to just let that Superbe derailleur go. There's really no point in pushing this further. Better to just enjoy the ride now and see what else pops up.

I think you should report the seller. If he leaves eBay, that's fine, but I think a record of him not honoring the deal should be on file.

Nope. The seller already admitted to be a scoundrel. Offering more money to a dishonest seller makes for an even worse transaction.

The flip side of the coin! I'm forever reading threads on the CV about sellers expecting their money within 48 hours (or somesuch ridiculousness) because they wrote the 'term' into their auction. And then there's this.

I've had this exact situation happen to me more times tha I can count; sellers who would demand their terms be honored but can't even deliver at all when they feel things didn't go their way. Ebay is a game and this seller is proving it once again! DO NOT under any circumstance offer him more! Report him to Ebay and file the negative feedback later on, after he feels like he's safe from you. If he volleys a neg at you, protest with Ebay and he'll be forced to pull it.

Either that or threaten him with the neg unless he gives you something for wasting your time and effort
