198? Traveler. Salvageable Brooks?

Saved this traveler from the dump. Trying to figure out the year, I feel like it's mid 80's, but the online catalogs were no help. Drivetrain was all Suntour AR, with a Suntour perfect freewheel. A Brooks saddles was attached, you can see the condition in the pics. Is it restore-able? If so how? Thanks for any and all help.

Yeah, you could try riding it, but it will most likely break sooner than later. If you want a high quality replacement for that old cracked leather contact BF member @rhm, he recovers Brooks and other leather saddle frames with fresh leather. It's not dirt cheap, but it's good stuff. I've tried two of his saddles, a really soft B17 re-do and a nice stiff one with really thick leather.

You have a 1983 Traveler. Note the charcoal/silver alternate paint.

+1 this.

But you could conceivably have the leather replaced.

+1 on RHM. Rudi is a great guy to deal with and his saddles are nice! I have one on my commuter and intend on getting another...
