Yes, I would safely guess that you are certainly in the minority when it comes to C&V riders. Perhaps a lot of it has to do with the fact that you own 2 bikes with friction systems.

I do not use friction shifting unless I feel like I need a wider gear choice, so every once in a while I will steal a 9 speed rear wheel from one of my other bikes, slap it on the Pana, and switch the lever to friction mode. This does not happen often, but it does not bother me because I know the friction mode is temporary.

Like I said, though, if I only had to pick one setup, it would probably be 9 speeds with indexed DT shifters.
