reexe or rixa?
Anyone ever hear of an olympic racer knock-off made by a company that is pronounced reexe or rixa?
Thanks! |
I believe the name is Rixe, they're made in Germany. It seems that this manufacturer is similar to Giant or maybe Schwinn, with products at almost all price points except maybe the highest racing stuff. Check them out the German Ebay site at www.ebay.de. There's about a dozen of them listed there!
Rixe sold lower-end bikes in the US, but not under thier own name. They were housebrands sold at I think Montgomery Ward ,Kresge and probably other "five-and-dimes" and hardware stores in the '60s and '70s. I think AMF sold them and it's possible they may be sold under the Spalding name (or is it Spaulding?). They were also sold under the Executive brand, another housebrand (I got this info from Oldroads.com). I'm currently fixing up a '72 Rixe English 3-speed (Sturmey-Archer AW hub) as a single-speed downtown beater bike with aluminum parts (h/bar and stem, rims etc.). It has foil decals that say "Sport 2000" and "GX 2000". |
This site is amazing!!
Smurfy,
I posted that question on behalf of an older gentleman wishing to relive some old moments. I am sure that you have made his day!! Thanks! Peter
