ANOTHER (!) RB-1 re-build

Here is the bike I built up for my wife. This is my first C&V rebuild/restore project (I still have my 1988 Merckx with Croce'Daune in original condition). I built it up to get her out on a bike with me, so the main considerations were her comfort and everything must work flawlessly since she is new(ish) to cycling. That is why is has 700 x 28s and a pretty plush saddle.

It started out as a 58cm 1990 Bridgestone RB-1. Here are the "before" pictures:

The color is "UMass" maroon (she was an athlete at UMass) with a gold metallic candy clear on top to make it pop in the sun. The pics don't show how sparkly it is! I built it up with a mix of used and NOS Campy parts. I always liked the 1994 decals so asked JRRestore to make some up.

It's obvious you have great affection for your wife, and she's a lucky gal.

Very, very nice job.

Looking good...Now give your wife a gentle slap on the wrist. It looks like she is cross chaining a bit. I suppose with todays slinky chains it doesn't matter so much. Nice build. Your wife owes you her company for thousands of miles and a century or two.

I'm so relieved you didn't buy her one of those specialized "ruby" bikes.

Cross chain is my fault . The FD was not adjusted correctly -since remedied.

Tomorrow we are taking it out for the maiden voyage. So far she thinks it is very "pretty". Anyway, she is worth it!

The Specialized Ruby is just not my -or the wife's- style. Too flashy.

PS It is very hard to find nice silver seat posts!

She is 6'01" (185.4 cm) and I am 6'04" (193 cm). We are both rowers -we met on the water!
