Twin sons of different mothers
Here's my nearly completed Stumpjumper Sport converted to drop bars for summer commuting. It came to me as a thrift store find, well used & neglected. It's built with a combination of original parts and spares from the garage. The wheels are a pair I got for $8 from someone who upgraded, and added an 8 speed 12-23 cassette and friction barcons shifting a SunTour Mountech derailler.

When I get time and finish a few other projects, I plan to return the singlespeed to near-original geared condition with topshifters and bullmoose bars and build the third brother as a singlespeed. |
Both are in excellent shape. Is the black one an 84?
I have a silver one - the serial number indicates that it was built in July of 1982. There are a few differences between that one and your silver one - the rear brake bridge is different, for instance. I'm pretty sure that the one that I have is a Stumpjumper...do you know what makes yours a Sport? |
The Sport was the cheaper version of the Stumpjumper. I paid $400 new for mine with a good ole boy discount. I think the top Stump had the TA cranks, Mafac brakes & a separate bar & stem instead of the bullmoose. Better components all around & better frame tubing.
