Fontan Cranks...
1 Attachment(s)
Hi. I'm new here, and thought I'd posted yesterday to inquire about swapping a crank from 90's Peugeot road bike to an old (I'm guessing late 70's) Fontan women's road bike. Have attached pic here for what it's worth. Question is, having tried two crank removal tools and failed both times (too small) am I in any case going to need to swap out cups and spindle/axle?
Thanks for any advice! Nick |
These are cottered cranks. Are you having trouble removing the cotters? What type of tool are you using? As far as swapping cranks, yes, you'll have to replace the spindle at a minimum.

fontan/Peugeot crank swap
Thanks for all the input. The Fontan are indeed cottered cranks, and I'm optimistic about getting those loose and off; the replacements, coming from the Peugeot, are what I was concerned about. I will find the 23mm tool recommended by others, and give that a whirl. If not, then the compromise will be to leave the crank on, and just replace the chain ring (existing rings are badly bent, hence the project in the first place). The chainrings are three pin (?).
