Paletti ID help?
 

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could provide information on this Luciano Paletti frame I recently picked up. It has been repainted, of course. I have found very little information about Paletti's bikes online, and this frame has a few details that I haven't seen on any others that I have found: pump nipple and two sets of bottle lugs. It also has the attached front derailleur mount that most seem to lack. It was originally originally equipped with campy super record components.

Any info would be super appreciated!

Yeah, the frame appears to be made very well and feels great on the road (I put 80 on it the day after I bought it). I made an attempt to contact Paletti in my horrible Italian but haven't heard back from them yet. I'd love to find a set of decals.

Giorgio seemed to think it was a 70s model, which explains why I haven't seen one similar. All the Paletti photos I've found online have been mid-80s.

with these braze-ons (2 sets of WB bosses, pump peg, FD tab, cable tunnels and stop, shifter bosses) I'd say it's very likely an '80s model unless all that was added when re-sprayed. Was the rear spacing 126?

No, I'd say it was more than that. That's a standard 120mm track hub and it pulled the chain stays in more than 6mm. 130 maybe?

The braze-ons all look very original -- the bottle bosses and the pump peg both have the convex diamond bases that appear elsewhere on the bike.

I am beginning to think you're right, though. The PO seemed to think that the Super Record crank and bottom bracket were original equipment on the bike. They have the square with an "11" which indicates a manufacture date in 1985, from what I can tell.

l have 2 paletti's a 1985 Super Prestige SLX fully panto Super Record and recently purchased a carbon model with Chorus.l restored my SLX and got Michele Paletti to send decals and a bike catalog.He sent me 4 sets of decals.l have a spare set with white lettering if interested.Your bike looks to be an early eightys model because of the engravings on forks and rear stays pretty similar to mine.

I have a Paletti Profil Sistem PMZ that is red, yellow, chrome and black. I think it's from the 80's but I have not been able to find any information on it. If anyone knows anything about this model, please reply.

Hello to all, - I am new on this great forum, and after the introduction page (the " hello from Luxembourg" thread) I jump to here as I bought a used but fine classic Paletti road bike two weeks ago. I love it ( except the colour - I'll repaint it professionnally in winter) . I really don't know what's original ( the frame certainly does) on it or not. I think it must be a bike from the late eighties or the early ninetees. I'll try to post a pic if I find out how to do.

If You give me a little time, I think I can help You with the decals. As I'm rebuilding entirely my Paletti bike
( the frame looks very similar to yours) I took pics from the decals that were on it and they are being reprinted to put on the bike when the remake of the paint work will be finished. If it is a success, I'll post pics of the new (old:-)) decals so You do have the possibility to do the same thing I did: give the photos to a decal maker and he'll do that.
If You like the idea, give me a sign.
As an idea, here's Luciano Paletti's signature on my bike:

Paletti was one of the first to use braze-on front derailleurs in the 70's, prior to Campagnolo making them as a standard product. Jointly with Marastoni, he came out with bikes having quite a slick front derailleur not requiring any band. On one side the mount reads Marastoni and on the other it reads Paletti. Marastoni had been making braze-on front derailleurs since the early 70's. The double water bottle mounts do however point to the 80's or a modified frame.

beautiful bike, sad to see it as a fixie. at least they didnt chop all the cable guides and other braze ons off. what happened to the gruppo?

As I told You, I'm busy rebuilding my old bike.
It's all in parts at the moment, but the frame is finished.
Here's a pic of the frame NOW, hope You like it:

Here two other pics, showing how one can reproduce decals quite close to the original ones.
Can be very interesting with decals that don't exist anymore. What You have to do is take pics from the original stickers of Your bike BEFORE You sand off the original coulour . Then find a place where they make these things ( a "lettering studio", or how do You call this in English:-). The people have to be conscious at work, although.
Afterwords, when two layers of new colour are on the bike frame, and the colour has been "burned in" ( what in Italy they don't always do, which is disappointing, especially when it is a frame of value, like... well, I won't say names, - the "remake" stickers must be put on.
Then, the whole bike should get a layer of clear varnish to protect all - the new colour AND the stickers.
For me this was a first time experience, ( and it's not over yet), but I like the result. As my Paletti bike is not a "high level collectable", it seemed interesting to try to do that - all I want is a low budget nice classic road bike, - and that's what it's gonna be. As soon as I'll have finished the rebuilding, I'll send some more pics.

very nice, de paletti. the decals look really good and i like the vibrant orange color of the frame in progress. i can't wait to see when you are finished.

Here are my 2 paletti's,I've finally worked out how to post the photos.I bought my Super Prestige in 1985 when I went racing in Italy.I restored the paintwork as it had a crack in the right chain stay.I found out later many Paletti's had this as a common problem as they were widely available in Melbourne through a friend of Luciano.Mine is all as original as can be,the brake levers supplied with the bike never worked properly they were first generation internal cable routing I still have them they are pantographed as well.I replaced them with apair of cobaltos from Campoldy.I bought my latest edition two years ago after being hit by a car on my Old Colnago Mexico. It's a beautiful ride.It's equipped with a full Chorus ensemble Campag wheels and Ritchey finishing kit.I've had many hours of pleasure riding my machines and continue to do so.
