Would still be better served by a brand new thread. The people (drisee) with new questions will have them seen.

OK so the thread is like 2 1/2 years old but did the OP make a move yet? might still be carefully considering the purchase...

:D

I splurged and had a Waterford Adventure Cycle custom built for me 68cm frame. Luv-it. Took delivery February 2010

Wanna trade it for the bike you originally asked about. I am similar a similar build to you and way too cheap to ever get something custom.

With a little tweaking I made this Alyeska work. The longer stem and mustache bar allows me to stretch out on it. Not as comfortable as my 68cm Bridgestone 400, but it fills a different roll. I have it set up as more of a cross\mountain bike.

@yuoil Thanks for the feedback on the racks to fit your stock 27" wheels. I think i might go with something similar but in black. Glad to hear that racks will still work on the 27' inch wheels. I might go for a wider tire as well in the near future.

@chuckk Thanks for the PM regarding the racks. It's strange that Blackburn stopped making that one rack in silver. I think i might go with black Blackburns for the front and back.

@newenglandbike You're riding a tall bike at 6' if you're on a 25'. I'm 6' as well and the Alyeska i just picked up is 23'. Your inseam might be taller then mine, mine is a 33 1/2. I'm so used to riding bikes that aren't the right fit and usually smaller that my new bike almost feels strange but i assume i just need some saddle time in my new steed.

Here's a few quick photos taken from inside since it's raining. Mine is an 85', size is 23". I've only added new tape so far and one extra bottle cage since it was missing. It's in really great condition, i imagine it was never used for touring and was perhaps used as a commuter bike. It's pretty clean with little to no body damage. I picked it up for $250 with no tax at a used bike shop that just opened close to my place. The owner knew he was giving me a good deal but since he just opened.

Some of the parts that i believe have been swapped out. It has a Tange stem. Sakae Randonneur handlebar. Shimano Deore rear derailleur. The rear cantilever brake has been swapped out for a Shimano Exage Trail. I don't know much about that brake but it's not the Dia-Compe 960. I would rather replace it with the 960 so that it matches up.

Lemme know what you guys think. Thanks.

Well if my bikes were 25' then that would certainly be tall, but luckily they're only about 25". ;) :p

my bikes usually have about a 'fistful of post' and about 2-3cm of seat-to bar drop which is how I like it, and yeah my inseam is around 35", so it sounds like we have different geometries.

Here's my Trek 400

Agreed, 25' tall bike would be a world record i imagine versus 25". First time i've heard the term 'fistful of post', that's a good one. You definitely have some long legs my friend.

Per your request, before build, right after, and almost fully set for touring sans front rack and all panniers

Wow, that's nice.. Are those rivendell silver shifters? I run them as barends too and like them compared to suntour levers (which I prefer for DT setup). Love the green/light green paint as well.
