Hi everyone,

since the sun came out a few days ago, my motivation came back to life. So i went to the next copy shop to print out the head tube decals for a first print test. The result is really acceptable so i attached them to the frame for a preview. I still have the desire to paint em on with the help of Leen. Maybe i can get in touch with somebody who owns a PayPal account and who could send Leen some money for sending me copys of the masks. It might look a bit sketchy if a foreigner/stranger asks for personal bank stats. So maybe some of you guys can break the ice.

Anyway, this is the current state:

Regards

Kilian

Great looking bike, Too bad we live thousands of miles away from each other. Would look cool a pair of really nice Gazelles riding together.

Finally! We were wondering what kept you.

Nice frame BTW. I'm not sure the lugs were blue when it left Dieren. The original brochure can be found on the web somewhere, if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: here are the brochures.

RIH-Sport Amsterdam 1921-2012 tribute 20 mei 2012

After almost a century of manufacturing bikes in the Jordaan area in Amsterdam RIH-sport will be closing the 20st may.

The owner Wim van der Kaay has been making bikes for over 40 years and will retire at 76.
I am glad to see that there will be a tribute ride over the Amsterdam canals for RIH owners on their old or not so old Rih's.
I certainly will attend and try to make pictures

Exceptionally pity. I'll be there.

Some quickpics. A couple more for the Dutch bikes display thread

Batavus Professional Columbus SLX, right after I collected it. Batavus Professionals of this generation were raced to Olympic Gold, Silver, Bronze and multiple worldtitles. This particular frame is an ex-KNWU frame (Dutch national team). Groupset is 2004 Centaur 3x10, what is great stuff, but of course Dura-Ace 7400 or Sachs New Success would be more correct for this bike.

Zieleman Type Special, late example. Ko built this gem for a relative.

Awesome bikes Mel. Maybe we'll see each other the 20th. Maybe I'll deck out the RIH, just for the event, even though it's in a sorry shape.

So sad to hear that.
.
I visited the RIH shop for the first time a little while ago and had a brief conversation with Mr van der Kaaij. He had a lovely old racer hanging up but it was resolutely not for sale. Here are a few photos including a couple of that beautiful racer.

The videos of him on youtube are really a treat

A shame. I'll try to be there, preferably with my Super Course, if I can get it up and running by then. Otherwise it'll have to be a Groningen built example.

We walked by that shop several times when in Amsterdam last summer, however IIRC it was not open any of those times. Not that I was ready to order a frame or make a major purchase! But it was a great window to look at! For me...my wife, not so much.

I would love to make it to the RIH bash...ain't gonna happen though.

The red bike is a popular photo subject I'm sure...here's my shot from 2010. The 2nd photo shows a bunch of frames hanging that I enquired about...turns out they were existing customer's frames, waiting on re-sprays and/or framework...no RIH for me.

The Zieleman looks awsome Mel, but I also have to say the more Vittorio's I see the more I start to like them. looking forward to see the changes and pics of that Columbus Max tubing example you aquired earlier.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a secondhand RIH from vd Kaaij in exactly my size as it would probably be my last chance to get one. About the last frame he build was for a long time customer and she was willing to sell her old one (which was 2008 model )

Some pics: ( I knew that was coming)

When I talked to Wim half a year ago about the possibility of buying this second hand when he would have finished the new build bike for the lady I had no idea I would have gotten a nice Zieleman to ride and an almost finished Presto in the mean time . I was surprised when he called me and thought about it for some time.

After riding up and down the Westermarkt on this I concluded it fitted me perfectly and is a great riding bike.

Very nice! Only things I would change are the Ventos and a swap to white or red tape...splitting hairs though.

I was planning on bringing along my classic babyblue example to start with and maybe I can change halfway to this one cause it's only a two minute drive to the shop and back from where I live.
Last saturday there was an article on vder Kaaij in the Amsterdam based newspaper " the Parool". i'll try to scan it
