Don, You saw the frame before the build and polishing, after initial cleaning.
Indeed it was a lot of careful polishing, I first worked over the frame with Epifanes seapower colour restorer then a layer of Epifanes seapower cleaner and wax. Evened out the bigger scratches with a T-cut Scratch magic pen. Then went over the frame twice with ProTech scratch remover.
The beautiful metallic frame colour and shine popped out after this last layer. I tried the same products on the golden 70's Zieleman frame you saw and indeed it gave the same super result
For protection I finished it off with a layer of wax. A lot of work but the end result is even better than I expected.

I am getting good at this, also thanx to this site of course :p :) by now I also figured out how to get all the parts quickly derusted and shiny.

@ Mel I actually hesitated putting those caps in to finish the cockpit :p

No activator/hardener on the U-Pol I used. I use varnish at work all the time, but in a very different context. Definitley need to put any spray material on one thin coat at a time. Where I got caught with the U-Pol is that you need to be fairly close to the surface to get a good "wet" finish. Most other clear coats you can stand back just a bit, helps avoid overload/sags. I ended up putting too much on because it was about the third or fourth coat before I realized I needed to spray much closer.

Looks like a real time-absorbing project. But if you want a complete Amsterdam collection, you gotta have a Jabo.

Time-absorbing project would be the perfect way to describe the Jabo. I definitly would want to see if it is only surface rust in person as it appears to be because this pictures are to small to be sure.

That Jabo is terrific; great patina. I'd be quite happy to just hang it on my wall in the state it is in.

picked it up yesterday. really nice parts. campa record 1 st gen derailleurs, shifters, nice brooks saddle with campa record seatpost. campa hubs with fiamme rims. frame has the nicest lugs (artwork) but there is a really huge amount of rust on the chrome parts. on the rear forks its quite superficial whith some nicks but on the front forks its too much. i am having doubts what to do with this one.
how much is chroming and painting?
does somebody perhaps knows where i can get some jabo decals?
i know one owner in the netherlands who perhaps can help me with it. he only has jabo race deals whereas this frame had jabo sport decals.

Great job getting that one Wouter! Chroming and painting can be really expensive, almost five times what you paid for the whole bike if you bring it to BCP or pros like that. Pullup knows a guy, former painter at Presto, who may be able to help you. I'm also planning to contact him for my Zieleman piste frame, when the time is right (read: when I got the money for it).

Speaking of money, has anyone seen the ads by this guy Arthur on mp? With his nice bikes, but asking ebay-like prices, he is refusing to sell them on ebay. Even though he's trying to reach the international market now by putting the ads in English. Now 'everyone' on mp thinks their gios torino should cost at least €2000. Someone should send him a pm...

Smart decision for sure, it is really a nice bike.
The rechroming of the frontfork will set you back around 90-100 euro's and I know 2 adresses in Amsterdam that will do it for you. I hate rusted chrome so I would probably be thinking of rechroming.

I got the adress of this really good painter from a s70rguy who probably is the best option for you as he is a lot cheaper then BCP easily just as good.
But here I wonder if this is really necessary because as non fixie said the patina looks nice as well judging from the initial pics.

Hi all, first time poster here. After reading this thread and seeing all the great samples I thought I would offer my own. Owned this frame for many years but only just recently made a positive ident as a Presto. It came to me, 3rd owner, on a whim and is a perfect fit. Built for a pro rider by the name of Jack Simes who raced in the country before being banned for getting into a fight with another rider, was sold to someone in the states and repainted in Philadelphia (see decals). No repro decals and no tripple cross made the identification difficult. I believe it is Reynolds 531 and dates from 1972(??). Specific builder is anyone's guess. I am very happy to own it. I ride road bikes these days mostly, even got rid of my custom track, but this is one I'll never sell. Will repaint/restore it someday. Currently outfitted with American Classic equipement (above photo is 4 yrs old now), will post some newer photos later on, in the meantime, the frame:<br>

Lovely details. I'd give it clean and a polish before doing anything drastic. Maybe touch-up the white on the headtube a bit with modeller's paint. Great find!

I have a question about a RIH frame. Is it correct that when a Rih Speciaal frame mentions Bustraan Holland on the decals it has been built in the Cové Rijwielfabriek in Venlo and not in Amsterdam?

And that if it would have been built in Amsterdam it would have said: Rih Amsterdam?
