Here's another Bontekoe . Not mine, regrettably, but so nice I had to take a picture. I didn't want to touch the bike without the owner's consent, so no drive-side pic. I hung around for quite a bit hoping to catch the owner but to no avail. And when I returned an hour later it was gone.

A Bontekoe Super Sport. Mid-sixties or so.

Big mix of some original parts and 70's replacements with a Campagnolo super record headset, Suntour shifters en derailleurs, Titan Stem, Mafac brakes and Weinman calipers, Belleri Bars

Nice Campa hubbed tubewheels with Fiamme rims.

We'll see where this will go.

Question for the dutch guys, do you guys have swap meet events where people gather to sell and swap parts and bikes?

yes, there are several organized under the umbrella of "het stalen ros", and there's a club dedicated to vintage transport and city bicycles that has annual events. Plus, it's only a few hours driving to Belgium or the west of Germany where several events are held too. Maybe there are regional events without much web presence as well, but I'm not long enough in the game to know that. Most of the trade goes via marktplaats, a craigslist-like site. There are also a few shops that sell vintage stuff, or have people working that are "in the know" and don't try to sell you the latest carbon wonder bike. The hobby has really exploded in the last few months, by the way.

There's a sell/swap meet the 15th at the Hofbogen, Rotterdam. Starts at 10am, entrance fee is €2. Very curious about it, though I suspect high prices. But you never know, at Stalen Ros prices vary a lot since there are pro traders and also hobbyists cleaning their garage.

Timing is better than Stalen Ros, cause Christmas is coming and winter projects are beginning to take shape.

Are you planning on attending the lowlands? There's also a fleamarket at the Retro Toyr of Flanders, 14th of june. Elev12k got a nice score there last year

Wish I could, actually that's my b-day Just asking because I have a couple of dutch friends, asked to one of them and he did not know, but we are planning on going to one of the swap meets here in January...

Sent the link to my other dutch friend and he was kind'a interested in this "stop and save" (swap meet) event, but looks like the retro tour of flanders rocks too... Wish had the bike and the money to go.

With my other friends we always go to this one in january, hit and miss as with all the events, what I noticed last january is that prices went down compared with previous years. I always go like with the 30 bucks so I can't score cr@p but my friends always find stuff. For the last 3 years a guy had been trying to sell a rosin whatever model (one with square ish BB shell), paint so so, I even saw the guy in this other show... https://www.cirqueducyclisme.com/ ..... (you guys will like this one better because is for vintage bikes) but he is still asking way too much for that frame, so technically I desisted of even asking for the price last year

The Cirque du cyclisme is held in a town close to me, a lot of american bike collectors show up just to compete in the best in the show bike, the same with new generation of american builders. I know the organizer of this event, and as with any show or swap meet, hit or miss. So who knows what we will find in this one in 2014.

I know there are other swap meets around the country besides the super big ones like the ones in Las vegas that is for the industry and the one that is the showcase for the national bike builders of america and in that one sometimes you find japanese builders, for the record never been in those ones, or is too far or you need an invitation like the one in las vegas.

Enjoy the pictures at the cirque du cyclisme, not that many dutch bikes but basicaly old classic vintage bikes, many of them never been in the road.

That Joco is really nice. I was happy to tip my friend Steffen for this ladybike;-)
And Melvin i really like that golden Vittorio. Its the nicest Vittorio of your stable imo (or that i have ever seen from your pictures, although would not suprise me that you have some more hidden gems...)

Forum member Sloar and I will be refinishing a nice Gazelle Champion Mondial A frame this winter.

It is currently finished as a Colnago, but we know better.

Three questions please.

Could you point me towards an accurate decal set for this Gazelle?

Also, could you point me towards the correct Reynolds 531 decal for this vintage Gazelle?

Finally, a guess as to its year?

Serial number 3189619.

Thank you in advance. This frameset will be built to ride on a daily basis as my commuter next spring.

You have decals at ebay, the trick is to know exactly the era of manufacturing to guess the color and the right decals. My best guess... end of 70s, begining of the 80s.

There is a site that has a list of Gazelle framenumbers corresponding with the year they were build.

Nice one Grady! There are many of those fake 'nagos around here in the lowlands. Most of them are actually Gazelles or Koga's. The question about your project is: What colour(scheme) and which components are you going for? To be period correct, it 'll need NR, 600 Arabesque or Suntour VX, all with DT friction shifting.
Knowing you, my guess is you're going for brifters on your commuter

I have a Campy NR gruppo, a 600 Arabesque or a single speed option in mind.

I haven't totally settled in a direction yet.

As for a color scheme, I will go black.

A close friend has a late 70s Gazelle track bike with a very nice black finish. I've liked it for the last thirty years so I might as well honor that memory.

Quick question. How difficult is it to fit fenders on one of these frames? It has the eyelets so that's a good start.

What brake calipers would you use to help provide clearance?

This bike will be ridden daily in three seasons and I would prefer to show up for work without excess road grime if possible.

IMO you can use modern fenders instead of the correct era type ones.
