Thanks! Probably. If I like it as much as I think I will, I'll try to find a long cage SunTour RD, upgrade the gearing to a more useful 30-100 gear inches and take it to Tuscany for a week later this year.

This is my 56cm Gazelle AB that has been just recently completed — no wax or polish, yet. The paint is original (except for the gold I added in the lug windows and some clear laquer). There are some repo Reynolds decals. I dated it within a year or two, but I've had the frame for so long, that I have forgotten exactly — late 70's I think. It was assembled for German export. Thus, because of a patents dispute at the time, the 'Mondial' was left out of Champion Mondial on the TT. Nevertheless, these bikes came from the same 'handwerk' section of the Gazelle plant. I bought it as a bare frame free of rust from a man in Budapest.
If there is enough interest, I may start a separate thread with more pics and details about the build. For now: the parts and materials come from 5 or 6 countries; the tranmission is a generational mix of 600/Ultegra with other pieces from Shimano, Nitto, MKS, Tange, Brooks, Mavic. It runs tubulars. The tubing is Reynolds 531c. The BB shell is "pegged" for the ST and DT. I don't know if that was standard or if it was an added feature for a team ride order. What you say Gazelle owners?
The gearing is perhaps radical — 44/39 - 13,14,15,17,19,21. This was by design — not an accident. I have one redundancy.
It is dead stable, comfortable, and so far it seems geared for my needs — riding riverside with winds coming off the sea or thrashing out of the northern Asian mainland. (The Sendai area is pretty windy.) I made a couple of little errors — of no mechanical consequence, but you may spot them.

Thanks very much for the comments. I especially appreciate it because this build was neither straightforward nor easy. And indeed a lot of thought went into it, and I was often changing things in mid-stream, so to speak. - Lorne/Lenton

That gold headset is quite the thing. I don't know how it looks in person but in the pics it offsets the frame nicely, and I think maybe the stay protector too though I can be so sure of the color in the pic.

Staying with the Champion Mondial theme: a 1976 Locomotief Tour de France. A little rough and none of the parts are original, so it'll keep me off the streets for a while.

At first I thought it was a risk. I thought it might cheapen the effect I was trying to create by tarting up the frame too much. But then I thought, "WTH try it!" As it turned out, in real sight it offsets the frame, as you say. The stay-protector is a lighter tone, but not as much as shows in the picture. I was unsure about that bit too. It was cut from a heavy, anodized sheet I found at the DIY store. I knew that I could always peel it off. When I got it stuck on there, it looked quite naturally part of the bike. It was liberally coated with clear enamel to seal the edges and keep the anodize from being scratched.

Took a day off from work and finished the Springfield today.
Cool! Another Springfield on the forums. Missed the original post on it. Glad you provided a link.

Both the Locomotief and the Springfield look like bikes I'd really love to own.
non-fixie:
Just my person predilection: the non-original parts would not bother me a bit, as long as they are not so modern as to clash with vintage look of the frame. Nice lugs. I realy like the look of the headset, quill stem and that butterfly brake-bridge. If you take it all apart, replace bearings, buff the Al bits and repair the paint and clear coat the frame, I'll bet it will be gorgeous.

Actually, I need to thank you for posting yours. It made me research the brand, which in turn made me want one. It just took a lot of time for one to show up in my size.

It's just that I feel that aero bits do not look right on this '76 frame, so I am going to check what my parts bin can cough up in terms of mid-seventies parts.
This doesn't look right, now does it?

Thanks, @Lenton58. It's not so much the lack of originality that bothers me - these bikes could be ordered with just about any combination of parts available BITD.

My interest stemmed from another forumite whose name I recall but not his handle. I bought mine when I began to suffer Dutch withdrawals after selling my first Jan De Reus. Springfields do not come up often. Yours is a bit better finished than mine.

What a nice Dutch bikes are shown here, and so many unusual frame builders have existed in our little country ... let me add some more!

My first Dutch bike, a beautiful Gazelle CM A-frame from 1983, bought at my local bikeshop for grabs, did some work on it and sold it on to an Australian student that lived in Amsterdam. Fully Shimano 105 Golden Arrow with nice pantographed shifters.

Jan Janssen Vuelta from 1999. Bought just the frame, rebuilt with Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed and Sirocco cyclecross wheels. I must have some other pictures somewhere, just have to look for them. Sold this week.

The Gazelle Team, formerly ridden by Daniel van Elven (Team ForelDorado). Not a very big name compared with other people like Jan Janssen or Joop Zoetemelk, but because he used to live nearby this bike has taken a special place in my heart. Also bought the frame and rebuilt with Campagnolo Chorus 8 speed. Today I bought a correct headset, so it will be taken to bits in the winter to get that sorted.

A Gazelle CM AA Special from 1989, bought (again) just the frame and rebuilt with Shimano 600EX Ultegra. Sold to a German fellow some weeks ago (and still regret that, since I now have a complete Dura Ace 7400 group to be fitted to such a frame ...)

My latest project, this Gazelle CM AA from 1976. The frame will be repainted (I thinks it has just arrived at the paintshop as we speak) and than rebuilt with an almost NOS Shimano Dura Ace 7100 group and NOS Rigida rims.
And this isn't it yet, I also have a Gazelle CM AB from 1985 waiting to be finished, as well as a Van Tuyl.

Thanks for adding those, @Hajo. Nice bikes! Any chance of a picture of that Van Tuyl? We don't get to see those very often on this forum.
