Here's my Reus after a few changes, in it's current configuration.

Right frame: purplish/yellow, NOS
Left frame: red/white/blue, KNWU frame (KNWU = Koninklijke Nederlandsche Wielren Unie, translated: Royal Dutch Cycling Union), ex-Dutch National team.

Both frames: Cinelli spoiler shell and aero crown, Everest lugs, Campag drop outs, Silva brake bridge

This is the same one from the other thread Lynn... Just an updated pic.

Far as I can tell these are the only three...at least that anyone has mentioned in an internet posting.

Plus...Your ex- and Marty's are actually "by the hand of" Jan de Reus. This is a later bike from right around the time his son sold the shop...still a nice SLX frame though with some interesting features!

My Reus



Last summer I had it equipped with Campagnolo Victory parts, C-Record/Omega wheels and Philippe cockpit. I made a lot of miles with it. I really liked the ride. Absolutely among the best bikes I've ridden. Agile and responsive with still a very decent level of comfort.

Well at first glance, yes, but I got the expensive bits using a method akin to this.

That said - thoroughbred is absolutely apt, Jan! I hope you're not offended by the partial modernization.

Yes the yellow fades from a bright golden yellow on the sides of the frame to a pale yellow on top, the logo have a similar navy blue to bright royal blue fade. Very tasteful in my opinion.

I really wish you would stop posting all these pics of NOS frames, it makes the chips and scratches on all of my bikes seem even worse. Three beautiful frames posted in one day is just not fair.

Snippage for bandwidth sake.

I would say yours is a contemporary of the frame I owned at one time. Details such as the "R" on the lug, REUS on the fork crown, the brake bridge, and the font of the markings are the same as my old frame. Mine did not have any chrome, but it did have a number tang. You said yours was 531 butted, I would not be surprised if it were 531C as was my ex. Mine dates from ca 1986

1986 - I think it would be about the same for mine. The Victory/C-Rec equipment on it was the original kit, so that would point at more or less that era. Of course I should go to the shop with the serial. Maybe they do still keep the records somewhere.

The 59cm Duell I hope to enjoy the ride of soon: model Pursuit. NOS frame.

A pure criterium machine. This means it has to deal with 400x tight cornering and sprinting out of the corner per race and this everything on often far from perfect innercity road surfaces. The frame is build using Columbus Cromor tubing. Not light like SL, but a logical choice considering the use and if you want to do longer with the frame than one season.

Again the painter couldn't resist putting some serious effort in the paintscheme

Very nice frame Mel! I bet on a well built frame like a Duell it will be hard to detect much Difference in tubing.
That paint job is really nice! Do you know who painted them in the 80's 90's?

Beautiful Duell (Doo-EL or Dool?) Mel... I think the extra effort paint jobs on both these Duells makes for an interesting bike which I'm sure is backed up by the build quality! What are you going to hang on it???

I had a mix of Superbe drivetrain with Mavic (Modolo) brakes ready to go on it, but after I acquired the 'driekleur' KNWU Batavus and decided on a Euro theme for that one, the Mavic is destinied to go on the Bat. On the look out for a new brake system now. It needs to be something that offers proper brake performance, as that is what you want with a criterium bike.

I would think ''Doo-EL'' sounds most accurate in American-English btw.

Nowadays it Jan's brother, Brady van Dalen. He is professional (bike) painter and he also did the refinishing of my Zieleman and WTB. He did that very well. I am unsure on who painted the Duells in the eighties, early 90s.

My new PEKA

Yesterday evening I and a friend made a little bicycle collection roundtrip. This PEKA was my score.

I got the PEKA from a guy who's father worked with Peter Serier in the Amsterdam Peperkamp shop. The guy told he was a quite good racer in his youth, but about the time he took delivery of his new around him designed PEKA he developed more interest in beer and women. Hence the PEKA didn't see much use and had been tidyly stored away for decades.

I am a fan of Peter Serier's work. He is a pragmatic builder with very good eye for detail. I already showed you some of that with for example my Prestos of which some are also built by Serier. This PEKA is no different.

...but with the PEKA Serier not only build another great frame, no, he went a bit futher with his refinement. Spot the Nuovo Record aero levers with internally through the bars routed cables. I have been told it took 5 bars before they were happy with the result.



Pic of the previous owner. Bike looks very good overall. That Concor seat was blue once, exactly matching with frame. Blue are also the bar plugs and the end tape. I think I will do a little overhaull: fresh tape, fresh tyres and fitting the NR cranks caps. I do have that same seat, but is reserved for another build. For the levers I consider going with blue Velox cotton, instead of conventional hoods. I am really looking forward to riding this. It is my size.

What year is that? That's one of the nicest looking racing bikes I've seen in a while.

Not sure if you are referring to the Springfield, but the frame is probably late 70s, early 80s. Sorry, that is as close as I can come.
