Ah yes, I see now. Sorry about that. Something must have happened to your post count; it was at 1 yesterday.

BTW, I was eyeballing your Chesini last week on Flickr (because of the link with Van Herwerden); very nice!

Me likey. I don't see too many early 70s Gazelles, much less a brown one.

Oh, that's rich! Thanks for posting Eddy, makes me want to ask so many questions... But let's start with: is it a cyclocross bike or randonneur (considering the eyelets). I didn't know they already ran canti's in 1960. The stem is also pretty rad, what type is it?

This was a racer probably doubling up as a winter cyclocross bike...these were very expensive around the early 60's and cyclocross was not as common as it is nowadays..the spokes are soldered (like trackwheels)
on fiamme sprint rims -very lightweight!
the stem is an adjustable Ambrosio Super Corsa+bars..quite rare
canti's were already made in the 50's..

What an amazing bike, I´d love to have such a nice, large, Verhoeven. Dutch Cyclocross pioneer Manus Brinkman rode on Verhoeven, the amazing image here shows him in the mid ´60s, although the bike seems different from the one in your pictures(the forkcrown for example). It´s hard to tell though.

According to the caption it's the 1965 cyclocross "Katerkoers" in sportpark Duinhorst te Wassenaar. Weirdly I just rode past there earlier today, shaking down my newly built up Gazelle Champion Mondial Cyclocross bike:

funny how a bike gives away ones identity

thanks Eddie for posting these bikes and the info on hem.
@rob: nice to finally see this bike, with the Campy parts and awesome custum saddle. Absolutely sublime, still super jealous... You ARE allowed to ride this on the RRvV with road tires you know. I saw a Gios Torino cross bike or two last year there.

Hi Don, guess I'm busted. It finally came together after the usual false starts and rethinks. Rides great too. The saddle is surprisingly comfortable, but it's early days yet. The modded pedals and clips seem to work well too, although they still need some work.

But here it is, my ca. 1985 Gazelle Champion Mondial Cyclocross:

I'd feel bad for the regular AA if I took it's rugged brother to Oudenaarde. But I guess the gravel tyres that are on there now wouldn't even need to change. Still, I'm planning giving the old one a slight overhaul for the RetroRonde. I think I'll take the CX to Amerongen in april, will you be there too?

Would a raleigh that was made in gezelle be considered Dutch ? Or has Dutch got todo with styling too ?

Yeah, got it from MP at the start of winter. The guy I bought it from intended it to be his last frame ever (but n+1 caught him out, judging by the carbon monsters on his shed wall). I guess that explains why it's quite luxurious and versatile for a dedicated CX frame, with bottle bosses, chromed fork and rearstay. It was never raced but was apparently lend once as a fourth back up/pit switch bike to a Dutch CX champion without seeing action. Should have paid more attention, but was distracted by the bike itself at the time.

The 'Amstel' paint scheme makes it quite similar to the two cx bikes used in the early '80s gazelle catalogues:

Latest addition to the stable. A 78 AA frame built mostly Super Record. Forty miles in and I like it.
