i like! but doesn't that stem come off? seems so high!

stringbreaker 06-11-08 05:22 PM

The Technium stem is really long so its good as is. I got it that way so I wouldn't have to bend over so far. Back issues from my misspent youth ya know

keiththesnake 06-11-08 05:27 PM

It's beautiful. It even matches the walls.

East Hill 06-11-08 08:14 PM

Oh, you've got the Imperial on there! Beautiful :D .

Love it - very nice.

mstrpete 06-11-08 10:16 PM

Where'd you get the seatbag? It works nicely with the Brooks. I want something like that for you-know-what.

Louis 06-11-08 11:01 PM

Sweet.

Gary Fountain 06-12-08 01:42 AM

Great build. You must have spent quite a bit of time considering your riding needs. Every component seems to work well with the other parts.

cyclotoine 06-12-08 01:45 AM

Looks pretty good, but there is something incongruous about the zero setback post and super high technominc. I personally prefer a stem with rise like a dirtdrop. But I really do like the build, very cool bag also.

gnome 06-12-08 02:08 AM

Very nice.:thumb: It does look slightly odd with the polished stem and black seatpost and bars, though.

I have some back and neck issues give me fits with riding in the drops and so I figured with this setup I'm a little more upright even in the drops. So far I like it, works good for me. I really didn't care for the silver stem but its the only one I could find that was long enough for my needs at this time. If I find a black one I'll get it or maybe paint this one. I'm going to ride it a while and see if it grows on me

cs1 06-12-08 07:03 AM

OMG, a Celeste Rivendell! That is nice. I always liked the looks of a moustache bar. How does it ride?

The stem is made extra long.

That's a Carradice zipped roll. Not real big but it carrys more than I thought it would when I got it. I'm thinking I'll put a rack and then use a set of panniers when I commute with this bike. I was sort of going for that Rivendell look so I guess it worked out. It rides really nice a very relaxed ride great for commuting and all around stuff.

RK1963 06-12-08 09:38 AM

I like celeste bikes, so much so that I bought one. However, I have heard others say that they don't like the color.

Different strokes but I figured I had to have at least one Celeste Bianchi in the stable. I think it can be very flashy depending on the componentry or kind of understated which is what I was going for

Then there are weirdos :twitchy: like me, who don't like the color but think Bianchis should be celeste as a matter of principle (and that the color should be banned from use on anything else, bike or non-bike).

Stringbreaker, looks like you built up exactly the bike you wanted. I suspect you're going to get years and years of enjoyment out of it. Way to go. And I, for one, like the stem - classic look (albeit a tad tall, and for a very good reason), very functional.

yohannrjm 06-12-08 12:17 PM

What bars are those? They seem to have more drop than moustache bars.

I love what you've done with the bike. I agree with a couple of earlier posters in that a riser stem would have worked better for that rise, but I'm sure you've gone with what looks good to you.

Good job.

stringbreaker 06-12-08 12:23 PM

The bars are Gary bars I can't recall the exact model right now. Yes they do have a bit of drop but are flared out in the drops. I kind of didn't like the look of them but they really feel right and now that I have them wrapped I really like them. Besides they really fit my budget ( they were cheap)

SB,

I do like the look of your newest ride. Very pleasing to behold! You were a good man and husband to complete Mrs. SB's mixte first. I'm surprised East Hill didn't ask for a group picture.

Where did you purchase the bars? I'm thinking of putting something similar on my C-Dale hybrid and commuting to the church one or two days a week. I'd like to try without spending much.

I think it's a good balance. Black bars, hoods and post. Silver stem, brake levers, and bar end shifters.

stringbreaker 06-12-08 01:23 PM

PB: I bought the bars from my favorite LBS in Orting Wa. about 6 miles down the road. I do so love those bar end shifters they are really easy to use, much more so than I though they would be. No distraction in use I might end up installing a set on the Volare. The bars are Origin 8 by Gary

I've been w@rking - the j@b has been keeping me up late.

Besides, all I was gonna do with it was strip it, build it with 8 speed Sora, and flip it for scads and bagfuls and oodles of cash. Mike saved me all that bother.

There - happy? :D

Seriously, nice build on a nice frame. I knew it would clean up well. I am very happy "one of our own" got this bike for his personal ride and I am really pleased to be a small part of this (and the mixte) build.

Ride it into the ground!

Mike really did a hell of a job on this one. As a reminder, here's what it looked like after I fished it out of the wastewater reclamation pond:

What's a Bianchi?

I really like the Celeste color and the barcons.
