Think I can get $400 for this?

I posted this on Craigslist and Kijiji classifieds.

Classic Italian made Bianchi bicycle built with Cro-moly tubing and equipped with Campagnolo gearing. The bike is in very nice cosmetic and technical condition. The whole bike has been rebuilt from the ground up. New paint (No decals), fresh bottom bracket bearings, new cables and housings.

Italian Cro-moly tubing - 56cm
Campagnolo 6 speed rear and front derailleurs
Campagnolo Syncro 6 speed down tube shifters - Braze-on
Stronglight bottom bracket 118mm
Stronglight 52/42 170mm crank
Mavic CXP21 700C wheels
Continental Ultra Sport 700x25C (0 Miles)
Sora HB-3300 32h front hub
Sora FH-3300 32h 8 speed rear hub
Shimano Hperglide 8 speed cassette
Shimano quick release
Modolo Mach l and Mach ll calipers
Dia-Compe aero levers
Cork Plus handle bar tape
ITM stem
New gel seat

This bike rides very nicely and would be a great commuter or everyday driver.

What model Campag derailers?

RK1963 06-12-08 02:43 PM

No, me thinks not.

RK1963 06-12-08 02:44 PM

Is that a poor-mans seat mast?

rhenning 06-12-08 02:47 PM

I doubt it without some kind of proof of who made it. It is like the fake Paramounts that pop up pretty often. They don't bring much money. Looks like a nice bike and if you can prove its pedigree you will do better. Roger

bibliobob 06-12-08 02:49 PM

Because of the paint and the non-period wheels, it's only value to me would be as a strictly utilitarian rider. So, I doubt it.

afilado 06-12-08 03:29 PM

No. This is a sloppy bike.

Put it on Ebay and see what it brings. That's a pretty good test.

There are SO MANY good bikes out there for so much less money.

Did you spray paint the seat post?

+1 - along with the lower Campagnolo headset race and water bottle cage fittings.

What condition this thing was in in the first place to warrant such a repaint?

EDIT:

Why did you have to paint over the parts that you didn't paint initially? After all, from the bare-frame shots, it appears as if you did take off the lower headset race and bottle cage mounts:

P.S.: $3.48.

short answer: NO!

High Fist Shin 06-12-08 04:40 PM

Sprayed the seatpost?! And it doesn't look like there is a binding bolt in the seat collar. Was the post frozen?
And you missed the top tube cable guide near the seat tube. Your front brake cable housing is too short and the rear is too long.

No. Sorry. Not worth what you're asking.

$3.25

Why not. Aluminum can get scratched quite badly.

It's broken and I couldn't find another in my area.

Fixed

It's not a Campy headset. What do you do with bolts that are rusty?

It was in a scrapyard for a couple of years. Besides, it was pink/white and rusty.

It has Bianchi engraves on the bottom of the BB along with the serial #.

As for the seat post, I only painted it because, yes it's frozen and I haven't had a chance to replace it yet.

As for the paint on the bottom of the headset, you are right, I goofed.

I don't see why the wheels are not "Period". They are 700C, which is what the bike came with.

Ex Pres 06-12-08 05:22 PM

Too much a mish-mash, even w/o the painting mistakes. I'd say you'd be much better parting it out, and maybe turning the yellow bits into a fixie.

edit: the seatpost - yes, Al scratches, but buyers also need to adjust the saddle height. And then you say it's frozen!!! WTF??? You repainted a bike with a frozen seatpost?

old_alfie 06-12-08 06:06 PM

To me it looks like you took a junker and did an un-thought out quick-and-dirty kind of paint job on it, threw a mish-mash of components from under the garage workbench on it, want an exorbitant price for it, and then come here hoping to receive an imprimatur for your offering.

All things considered, I think these guys are being quite fair about this bike and besides, you _did_ ask.

Whoever wrapped the bars did a horrible job.

w98seeng 06-12-08 06:21 PM

You are all correct, I didn't get $400 for it, I got $360.

karmat 06-12-08 06:30 PM

I wouldn't try your luck on it next time and expect anything like the same results

Karl

Old Fat Guy 06-12-08 06:32 PM

Well that must be worth $400 US these days, congrats.

How much is petrol in Montreal?

PS-- Too bad about your hockey team... GO WINGS!

Of course you told the buyer about the frozen seat post and BB? Or did you?

Masterful troll. Innocence and arrogance topped off with doozy of a finale.

Beautiful job on the subtle incompetence of the joke bike W98seeng. Ruffle some feathers.
