What a fascinating night...

As part of our Bike month activities we have been holding salons and tonight I was one of the presenters at a little show we called "Bike Fascination" and have to say it was a hell of a night.

My friend John is a brilliant mechanic and collector of bicycles and he makes my stash look pathetic...

I got to caress a 1951 Sturmey Archer ASC tonight which was in itself awesome but the little bike with the almost as rare FC4 hub was even more thrilling...

Not vintage but very cool...one of the guy's Cat Trikes with a BionX drive.

My bike stood in stark contrast to all this technology but folks sure had a lot of fun taking the 1948 Rudge for a spin around the square and most said it was like nothing they had ever experienced.

And not a single one of those illustrations in that catalog look a day old, or a day outdated. Spiffy - every bit of it!

You luck bugger! That looks like it was a very fun event and it must have been great to ride a Moulton Speed and pour over an as new Sturmey Archer master catalogue.:thumb:

Did I mention the vintage Campy Schwag ?

Or the Nexus 7 speed I am getting for my long bike ?

:D

I also forgot to mention the vintage Phillip's pedals my friend is giving me for the Rudge since those French pedals (Lyotard) have no business being on an English bike... :D

There is a moulton with rear rack for sale for $400 in victoria right now. it was in my shop the other day, I had to tighten the stem. It was in fantastic shape, full suspension... He said he had another one with front and rear rack.... a day later I say the one on usedvictoria.com he also appears to be selling a vintage pheonix and a 1934 BSA fixed gear.... He wants to buy a Cervelo Soloist..

Thanks for sharing. Great pictures, although I would have severe reservations about radially lacing any vintage Campagnolo hub on a full-size wheel.

John - My friend John is a mechanical genius and would also have some serious reservation about building a full sized wheel on a vintage Campy hub w/ radial lacing... the rear wheel is a 2 cross on that gorgeous FC hub.

The Moulten was an amazing ride despite the fact I did not have the right shoes on to really lay down the power and that Cat Trike is a rocket on three wheels... the 350w BionX drive is seriously cool.

Looked like fun.

On a side note, it is amazing for me to see people with coats & jeans in summer.

I used to think that - then I moved to Colorado - went on a night ride Saturday night in shorts and jersey and thank God I brought arm warmers. I still damn near froze my rear end off.

Wish we had get togethers like that here. That looks like a lot of fun. I'd love to try that Moulton just to see what it's like. We had a breakfast for 'Bike to Work Day' but that about the only bike month activity I noticed.
