Gitane Model/Year?
 

Anyone know the model name and year of manufacture of this Gitane? The decals look like they're from '78 based on the catalogs at gitaneusa.com, but the Alan-built frame doesn't match any I saw in their catalogs. Was this perhaps only available in Europe?

Thanks. Actually, it's no longer mine. I gave it, along with the rest of its parts, to a friend a few days ago. I'm just trying to collect some info on it so he'll know more about it.

No, I haven't. I just Googled Gitane, found their site and looked through their catalogs. Thanks for the tip.

Looks to be a re-badged ALAN, I didn't know that Gitane was one of those on the "ALAN list". The graphics are distinctive, I'll let you look for the catalog that shows when Gitanes all had that "descending box" motif, but I think it was mid-'80s.
Oopps you already said it was circa '78, I should know better than to skim and post.

Just to close the book on this, Stephen Andranian (gitaneusa.com) informed me that this is a "Record 1866" model made in 1978. Somehow I overlooked it in their catalog. He wasn't sure if it was available in the U.S., but he did say it was one of their better models that year.
