id help on a repainted bike

Just got a bike on ebay that has been fully stripped and repainted. I know someone out there can id this thing by the beautiful lug work. I hope the link works for you. These pictures are not mine; they are the pics that are linked from the ebay post. thanks for any input.

Nice frame and welcome to C&V! I'm sorry I can't be much help in giving you an ID. Are there any serial numbers? The location of them can be a help sometimes too. How about the seatpost size? That can help narrow down the tubing. Somtimes there is a stamp on the steer tube as well. Do you know the threading of the bottom bracket? I hope you don't mind that I've added a couple of your pics.......Best of luck in your search!

Those lugs look abnormally thick to me. Could they be chromed under that paint? Also, the lugs and seatstays look like these:

more info

Thanks for the id, and the beautiful pics. It seems there isn't a whole lot of info on these out on the interweb. i was hoping to find some decales or something, but it looks like i will need to make a stencil from your pics and try to do it by hand (that's a scary thought!).

the comment on lug thickness is interesting, and it would be wonderful if it did still have the chrome underneath, but i don't see why anyone would paint over chrome if it were still decent. i probably won't check in case there is nothing underneath it - i don't want a hole in the new paint for no reason. i will just leave it as it is for now until i decide to drop some real money on restoring/repainting.

i've ordered a full group of gold nitto and sugino to build this as a single speed commuter. i am sure many will think this is a bit daft, but oh well. my steel, my build! thanks for the info.

I thought that too. But then again, many photos of powder coated frames posted in the forum suggested that powder coating tends to make the lugs less distinct or pronounced. So then I thought that perhaps chrome plating would make the lugs more pronounced. Add a coat of paint on top of that and you have lugs on 'roids

yeah, the powdercoat thing is still confusing me, as the ebay ad said in one place 'powdercoat', but in others 'paint'. i will probably scrape a bit off the fork or bb when i get it and see if i can figure out which one it is - someplace that is easily hidden and easily touched up. it does make sense to me that powdercoat over lugs would make everything much less defined, especially on the small detail cutouts and such.

from what i can tell from the small amount of info i have been able to find online, the tubing is unremarkable (certainly not any of the higher or even mid-grade tubesets from the more widely known companies), and perhaps i paid a bit too much for it. oh well. i suppose that as long as it is true and solid i will just have to take pleasure in the beautiful lugs and componentry i am planning for it, and keep my eyes open for the next great deal on a 'fine italian steed'.

i will update on stamps/serial numbers if i can find some when the frame arrives. any more input from anyone will be greatly appreciated!
